I always buy myself something for Christmas because who knows what I'd want more than me!
It's a standup paddle board shaped for surfing. Super stoked. Know I'll get some harassment for it, but I don't care. As Gerry Lopez said, "you know why they don't like us? Because we're having too much damn fun."
Yeah surfers in va beach aren't the biggest fan of me, but I love it when I can go out on days when the surf is small, and still get a bunch of good rides. Also paddle boarding is great workout.

Nice! An ol' Wardog special. I was down in Santa Barbara earlier this year and rode one of his Hammer boards in a 9'5" and then an 8'5". Really nice shape. The carbon boards are insanely light! You're going to be stoked. Have you ever met him? Guy is a serious character.
Yeah. Same goes for here. I was hesitant for a while seeing how much sh*t my friend gets sometimes (the friend who got me into it), but after a few sessions on one where my friends who were paddling probably caught 1 out of 20 waves they tried to paddle into where I couldn't remember too many waves that I missed, I was sold. Like you said, it's perfect when the waves are smaller. I'll still paddle when they get heavier. The board I've been borrowing (while I was looking for the one I wanted to buy) was an 8'10" Starboard Wide Point 143l. This one is a bit smaller at 133l. Going to be a bit of a learning curve, but since the market sucks around here for resale, better to go more aggressive than less. Going to Mexico in Feb for two weeks and I'm going to take it with me. Where I'm going the waves will be small, so it's going to be perfect!

Glad to see other surfers on the forum - just got a used 2015 SR5. I use roof racks most of the time, but I put the roll-down rear window into instant use for popping down to my local break.
I'd be interested in hearing your progress both on the water and on (and off) the road.

Nice! Progress is actually going real well. Crazy to think that was not even two years ago. I think Ive been through 5 SUP's since then. Actually just bought a new one. It's going to be crazy. It's a 7' standup! Stoked to get it in the water. Heading to Cali for a week on a surf trip and then to Baja for two weeks not long after. Think it's going to be my travel board.
How's the stuff near you?

It's been fun fall surf-wize in New England, warm-ish water & weather, and fun long period ground swell. So it's rare but lovely when the weather & swell line up!
The weather tech mats in the rear have been the best investment by far.
I'f I get a race-board, or something in the 14' range, the stock racks might be a bit short, I'm doing a lot of research on full-length racks like Gobi racks or something.

Just got back from a surf trip to Cali. It was amazing. Got hit with a super nice swell while we were down there.
