Should have powdercoated it
Its getting the same black finish I have on my sliders. It has held up beyond my wildest expectations, I step on those things every day, they get dirt, rock chips, etc. Rustoleum Truck bed liner..... cheap and effective.

I'd probably powdercoat something like that for about $40-50 inside and out. You'd just have to give me sometime so I can shoot it in the middle of a texture black run.

Well, here is the status update:
I had a bachelor party last weekend (not mine:banana
so I didnt get a whole lot done. I have the rear frame rails and bolt pattern laid out in a CAD program so I can start cutting my lower skid plate which will serve as the base for the bumper and the platform for the aux. fuel tank.
I recieved the tire swing out pivot - a seriously burly deal from Comp. 4x4 (pic below).
I got my 4'x5' sheet of 3/16" P&O Steel and a 6' length of 2"x2" .250 wall and a 6' length of 2x4 .188 wall.
I have the rear frame rails all cleaned up, no more spare tire mount, no more tail pipe hanging down, etc. It is niiiiiice. Truth be told, I actually like how it looks even now without the rear bumper covering.
I'm out again this weekend for the actual wedding, but hopefully I will have time to cut out my lower skid and some templates to start tacking this stuff up!

We discussed this a lot when the 5th's came out in 09/10. See the links below, I had mine put in, in Feb 2010 and has been a great investment and well worth the price over the years.

I think most people are aware of the Prestigious module. JA's kit is less than half the cost, works great, and if your willing to source the components and follow his directions, you can make the module yourself for very, very cheap.

~~~Upgraded Rear Hatch Struts / Gas Springs~~~
As many of you have also experienced, my rear hatch gas struts blew out a month or so ago. I spent the last few weeks searching for a replacement solution that would offer more lift to accommodation the Gobi Ladder and be as close of a direct "snap on" replacement as possible.
Well.... I FOUND IT!!!!!
After ordering 3 different pairs of struts with no luck, I came upon LiftSupportsDepot.com One of the very helpful employees invited me to stop by so we could try out a few different struts and see which one worked.
Those with the Gobi Ladder, here is what you want:
Lift Supports
When you order, you must put in the comments section the following: "Convert to 10mm straight ends"
Part#49124 244LB Force 22.7" Extended 15.45" Collapsed
Other than that, they give the hatch the perfect amount of lift, they are an easy upgrade or replacement of yours are already blown, and best of all, thy are DIRT CHEAP!!!! How does $17 / each sound!
Anywho. Thought I would share, I am happy to have my hatch back up and functional again, I got tired of resting it on my head as I grab my crap out of the back. :boxer:

Great! Now you don't have to go through Gobi or pay the $99 to $125 they charge for these things!

Thanks for the heads up! Now I can finish my deadening of the rear hatch without spending a bunch to keep the hatch open.

4 days on my truck so far, absolutely perfect!
Can't say how annoying it was to have to hold the damn hatch up when I had that blown strut!
I'll snap a photo tomorrow.
I agree, lets add the number to the maintenance doc.
AS I mentioned previously I went through a few purchases and returns in seeking out the correct struts. All the ones purchased prior to these were more expensive, they ranged from 22$ each to 40$ each. When I was up at Lift Supports Depot, I questioned why these struts were so much cheaper since they appeared similar, were made the same, same mfg. etc. I was told it was a matter of volume, and luckily these particular struts are produced in high volume. It turns out that these struts are OEM replacements for Chevy Tahoe's!!!! Pretty awesome! That explains why they are only $17 each.
