Backup cam relocation

Very impressed. This makes me feel like I cheated, but then I felt better when I read about the, way more than I expected part. Been there done that, but hey it looks like it paid off just fine. At least you'll know how to fix yours if something goes wrong. I'll be like, ..uhhhh...:boom:

We need to talk about how to relocate the backup cam. That is one of the next three things to do on my list.

I can't remember if I did a write up on the splice job I did to install the new back up camera... Either way, shoot me a pm, I can shed some light on it when you get to that point.

BTW - love the work CBI is doing on your bumper!
 
A couple people PM'd me about how I plumbed the aux fuel tank into the OEM system. The way it works is it basically fills the OEM tank by way of a transfer pump and a momentary switch to turn the transfer pump on and off.

I fished out the OEM filler neck and welded a steel pipe threaded bung up near the top for the input line, and split the OEM vent line in two and t'd into this with some fuel line and a brass fitting. The setup is incredibly clean. From the outside of the truck not a single bit of the aux fuel tank is visible. Everything looks completely stock. Filling the aux fuel tank is simple, quick and clean. Open up the rear hatch to expose the hidden filler neck and fill directly into the 12.3 gallon tank. It takes a couple minutes to fill and the nice thing is I don't have to have the tank filled. Some other setups I have seen on the FJ forum filled through the OEM neck and filled the aux tank in a cascade fashion, basically after the main was full and the fuel backed up the filler neck it started to fill the aux tank. The users of this claimed it took forever to fill the aux and was a pain because the pressure keeps clicking the pump off.

Just following up on the struts install on 2010 LE. Was very easy, but a 2 man job obviously due to the weight. Less than 10 minutes total for install. Update on the pricing for 2 struts = $42.30 before shipping.

Thanks for the update, good to know this is still a solid option. I just realized I have had mine on there for about 2x a long as the OEM struts lasted and they are still going strong!

I hope to have a prototype cut out for my truck sometime this week.

If this design works, it may be another way for me to make the auxillary battery tray as well. Keep your fingers crossed!

I wish! I spent another 10 hours or so re-doing some wiring, running the wires for the fuel level gauge on my aux. tank, and finishing up some last minute details on the rear bumper. Lets just say.... the truck LOOKS different now. Surprise shots to come!

I'm dedicating a whole weekend to finishing up wiring some new lights, finishing the bumper and the battery tray.

I'll start a new thread once I knock the battery tray out. I have it all programmed up and ready to cut, even have material, just need time!:nerd:

Spent a bit of time working out the battery tray for that monster Group 31 Sear's Die Hard Marine AGM battery.

I actually put the battery in and hooked it up but wasn't happy with how the cables were stretched so I am going to have the auto electric place up the street make new cables so the install is clean. I did make a tray as well but wasn't happy with how it turned out so I drew up another one to bend up out of sheet metal, much better but haven't finished it yet.


Also, I posted in another thread but I finally got around to ripping the stupid KDSS hydraulic pistons out of my truck. They have literally just been hanging there for the last year and a half so I figured I should probably take em off and cap the lines in case I ever want to re-install them some day.

Any codes coming up after pulling your KDSS? I just removed the rear ram, installed a loop, and get intermittent codes.
