And remember that the old saw, "it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission" is not often true. State the thing you want to buy/mod right up front. Stand back for the ensuing blast. Wait until the dog comes back into the room to see what the hell just happened, pick up the plates, cups and papers that have been strewn about, and restate the reasons why the purchase is good for "the family." Getting early buy-in brings long-term gains (trust), whereas the mercy route creates the opposite.

FYI - when ordering these make sure to put Convert to 10mm straight ends in the comments or when they arrive they won't fit!

They do have great customer support and may ship you the correct fittings for no extra charge.

Congrats! I just did the same in March and I wanted to drive mine leaving the ceremony with cans behind it... but she thought a limo was more fitting?
 
Congrats dude! You drove past my house the other day. I made a big deal about it because I was stoked. Tried to explain it to the gf how I knew of

Some overdue updates:

Here are the pics of the trim pieces I made back in December for the headlights and Shrockworks bumper. I just cut up the OEM bumper. They fit perfect and look great. I couldn't stand the ones Shrockworks provided.







Pics from a recent evening desert trip - I'm in love with the amber covers for my light bars. The LED light looses that intense reflection and becomes very useable when cruising around.









Annnnnd - Rear springs upgraded once again - I went to the BIG BOYS!!! THE OME 2897's. So far so good, I sent my rear bypass shocks back to ICON for a revalve to match the new spring rate, I'm confident they will nail it.







At the same time, I decided to upgrade my Icon Rear hydraulic bumps. The way Icon sells them, they come with a little bump plate which bolts into the bottom of the coil bucket. Mine kept coming loose so I decided to make some beefy ones and weld em in!







At the same time as all this, I changed out the heim joints on the rear links seeing as how they had 70k miles on them. The bottom link heims were shot and ready to be swapped, the top ones were still in very good shape. So my rear suspension will be all freshened up and ready to go for the rest of the year as soon as I get my shocks back from Icon.

On my list of things I am tackling:
- Improved main battery tray
- Yet another switch panel
- modifying the latch on my swing out
- HAM radio install.

Awesome! How did you get the cut line so perfect along the bottom? I was considering doing this as well and was contemplating how I would get that line, measuring or scribing.

I slowly cut enough material off until I could fit those pieces up in there, then I just used some green masking tape to make the line that I wanted. Popped em off and used a 4" belt sander to grind the plastic up to the tape line. Cleaned off the edge and popped em back on!

Just work slow. Tape gives you a good line to cut/grind to and you can step back and use the tape line to visualize your end result.

Switch Panel Version 2.

My original one was similar but I didn't like the location of my power ports and I squeezed in a 2 1/16" fuel gauge for my aux tank. It was all too cluttered for my likes so I eliminated 4 switches and re-located the fuel gauge.

I have some matte grey 3M vinyl coming to wrap the panel and have a couple wires to run and it will be done. I have a little rubber edge trim to trim out the bottom. The gap was intentional, I didn't want the panel contacting the center console there on the bottom.

Yup, suuuuuper busy these days! New career has me slammed! That is a good thing :biggrin1:

Only thing I have had time to do was strip off the 3M matte vinyl off the hood. I had it on there for 2 years and it was getting messed up in a couple places. It came off pretty good, with just a few trouble spots. I ordered matte black to re-do it. Unfortunately its gonna be a couple weeks! I have my dad's 60th bday to celebrate this weekend and a camping trip next weekend.

Just had to stop by and comment after looking at this thread a dozen times and forcing my wife to look at your lighting set up :D. Absolutely love your 4Runner! It's made me start planning my fantasy 5th Gen for when my 2002 kicks the bucket.
