Solved: FJ Cruiser Spring Lift for 3rd Gen 4Runners

I ended up going a slightly different route with my lift but I absolutely love it! I paired 2018 4runner front springs to tundra bilsteins and put a set of 2007 fj cruiser 4x4 springs in the rear with a 10mm ome packer on each side. I gained 2 inches in the front and 2 inches in the rear. And the ride is amazing!! Feels like a different rig now. It sucks up bigger bumps like a champ and got rid of all my nose dive and some body roll. I couldn't be happier! Plus it was way more affordable than pairing tundra coils in the front and 906s in the rear:)

What did you set the C clip at on the front and what are you sitting at now? Hub to fender. If you don't mind me asking. I've got 99 talls in the front on the 4th perch and am at 23". I've got a set of 2018 4runner front coils and and debating swapping them out.

I have the fronts on the second ring. I'm currently sitting at 21.25 inches in the front, which is 1.75 inches taller than my stock height of 19.5 inches:) the bottom clip gave me 1.25 inches.. and so I took everything back apart and went to the 2nd perch.. for anyone thinking about doing the fj springs in the rear... they are very soft! They are an amazing ride but the dont hold weight well.. 2 friends sitting in the back seat says the springs all the way down below stock height:Cry:.with only one friend in back they hold up fine but I think I will have to upgrade to something stiffer especially when I pack my car full of gear and people all the time in summer. Otherwise the soft springs create am awesome ride during the week when I am by myself!

Nice thanks! sounds like they are pretty much the same as the 99 talls.. Mine sat 21 with the stock springs on some aftermarket KYB's that were on when I bought it. Might get another .25-.5".

My 906s are very stiff so after reading this thread I am sold on 2007 rear FJ coils with 10 mm trim packers. Now I can’t find any? Even on eBay…

Please let us know what works out for you. I may consider following suit, although I am not in any hurry.

Did you read my reply to one of the other members above? I have since found that the fj springs do not bear weight very well. The springs sag with only 2 people in back. My springs have 60k so that might be a factor but just a heads up. I would look at these.. 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER 4.0L V6 Coil Spring | RockAuto
I bought mine used off of craigslist so it was kind of a rare find. After I bought them though, I was told by a professional mechanic that these would have been a better bet! The acdelco brand is probably your best bet. Make sure it's for the 4wd version! They are selling for 100 for a pair:)

Thanks for responding! Yes, saw your post about weight in the back. Did you put 10 mm trim packers in? Think these ACDelco ones would be better because they are new, or because they can handle more weight?

Yes I put 10 mm packers in. I think because they are new, and thus will support weight better. Also, the acdelco rear springs are a variable rate spring which provide a better ride compared to the constant rate moog springs. Variable rate springs are great because they ride real nice usually softer than stock for the first 1" TO 1-1/2"of travel then stiffen 20 to 25% more than OEM under load.

Are you planning to make the switch? I need a guinea pig before I pull the trigger!

Interesting. Can you give hub center to fender measurements and part number of the springs you installed?

Not sure where the confusion came in but I am NOT running these springs. I am running stock fj springs. I was told by a friend who is a professional mechanic that the springs from rock auto probably would have been a better choice. I am sitting at 21.6 from hub to fender. 36.6 from ground to fender. With 10mm packers. My springs have 60k on them. My stock height was 19.5 in hub to fender before.

My bad. I jumped in without following the whole discussion. Sorry.

Hard to keep track of all this, eh? Like I said, wish it was simple to know what works and what doesn’t.

All I want is a 2” rear lift that is softer than the OME 906 coils. The FJ coils with the 10 mm trim packer - perhaps the ACDelco ones you reference from Rock Auto - may do the trick. Just nervous about pulling the trigger without anyone else confirming they work.

Also heard about 5th Gen. coils but no solid conclusions there either.

If you aren't worried about spending extra money then buy OEM rear springs. 5th gen coils will only achieve 1.25 inches at best. They are a half inch shorter than fj coils. I know this because they came with the front 4runner springs I got. Fj coils with packers are your best bet for ride. But OME 2890 springs are supposed to be 2 inch lift "stock weight" springs as well.. but others have said they were too soft for camping gear and whatnot.

Ready to order the AC Delco variable rate rears and some trim packers. Should I look for 3rd Gen trim packers or 07 FJ trim packers? Does it make a difference?

Thanks! Looking forward to a smoother ride and will have my 906s for sale after.

I used 3rd gen trim packers. I'm not sure how much wider the fj packers are. You might have to trim them a bit.

Just ordered the springs and 3rd Gen trim packers. Between this swap from my 906s and a used non-lumbar upper seat foam, I’m hoping this will make my truck smoother to drive!
