SOLVED - Tailgate Creaking After Adding Dynamat???

*SOLVED!*
The creaking and squeaking sound was metal-on-metal and sounded horrible. Turns out it was a dirty latch. Once I cleaned the latch and the lock component, no more sound!

Hi All,

I've got a 4th gen and I recently Dynamatted the tailgate. After doing so, I'm experiencing major creaking from the area, but I can't figure out what's causing it!

Anyone else experience this issue?

Thanks!

have you lubricate the hinges too? mines creeks sometimes since i rarely open up the hatch. make sure to have the windows up will opening the hatch, i did both inner and outer skin and with the window down, the hatch will fall back down sometimes.

I have never lubricated the hatch latch. Just cleaned both ends really well.

I don't quite understand the second part.

My hatch falls back down sometimes if I have the window down, I also dynamat the outer skin and inner skin of the panel so it's nice and solid. With the additional weight and hatch window all open all the way, if I try to open the hatch, it would fall down sometimes. If I leave the window up, the hatch stays in place. Have you got rid of all the rattles? Most of my rattles is gone after I took out the wiper blade.

Oh, OK. Sounds like you just need new shocks.

All of the rattles are gone. It was just the dirty hatch hinge.
