SOLVED!!! Water in driver's side floorboard

So, I have read over time where many have posted about water being in the driver's side floor area. There have been a number of possible causes like plugged sunroof drains, plugged drain holes etc.

I found a solution to my "water issue" and it may help. Underneath the carpet on the driver's side floorpan, there is a round, rubber plug about two inches in diameter. Just looking at it, it looks fine. I decided to swap it out with one I pulled from a parts yard and covered it with gorilla tape. Low and behold, the water-in-the-floorpan DISAPPEARED. Carpet is dry as a bone even in this torrential rain we are having. Hope this helps someone out.

Seems like this plug shrinks over time and water gets in. Rather than replacing it, it might work to take it out, clean it and put some silicone caulk around it and then cover it in heavy-duty tape just to make sure it stays put.

Had the same issue... rubber plug was brittle and hard... replaced and

Mine is coming from seal around door. Fir some reason there is a gap at the bottom that sends all the runoff inside but only when parked downhill. Uphill doesn't.

I dipped all of mine in some LM Ceratec some years back, and they have kept as new since......

Aha!
So not 4Runner related, but just yesterday, my wife and I spent over an hour yesterday trying to discover a leak somewhere on her '03 Rav4's driver side floor. A BUNCH of water got in last week with all the rain, so after shop-vaccing it dry, we did the test with the water hose, etc, but couldn't recreate it.
All seals under the dash, door seals, etc, were bone dry,


I'll pull the carpet to see if it has a plug as well. I'm assuming it would.

Mine was from aftermarket wiring from the previous owner. The wired around the fire wall grommet and popped it out of place instead of poking a hole in it and placing silicone around the wire once ran through the hole. I fixed this issue myself.

Anyone have any other ideas on this? My '05 is having the same issue, isn't the plugs as they are bone dry and water was flowing over the top of them. Poured water down the front of the car and it is draining down to a piece of the frame that seems to be leading to the vehicle. The picture is of where I think its dripped but I can't figure out where that leads. Imgur: The magic of the Internet
