Dana Corp made the frames that have been subject to recall.

No it won't. Just like the Tacomas , Toyota had restrictions on how long you will have had to own it for them to do anything.

I stand corrected. Makes sense too, as theres no reason why Toyota should be held liable for a product that someone hasn't owned for a decent length of time. Any idea how long that ownership period was for Tacomas?

I mean honestly what benefit would I get from coming on the forums and making this up? I myself have dealt with a crap ton of frame rust on various toyota SUVs and trucks. I was on the sequoia forum a year ago and everyone on there said "not a chance a sequoia frame will get replaced". Then look what happened. As for my local GM, what benefit would he have to lie to me aswell? If anything, he could take my unsafe 4runner on trade for dirt cheap with a bad frame and not have told me and then once the recall is finalized, fixed my suv and got top dollar with a new frame. Believe what you want.

Thanks for posting the interesting - and potentially exciting - information. Should it come to fruition, I'll keep my fingers crossed that the same holds true for Toyota in Canada. Far too many 4Runners and Tacomas with solid drivetrains prematurely end up in the scrap yard up here on account of salt/snow rot.

Toyota will not announce this until they can produce enough frames for the recall. You know how many people would be down the dealers throats if Toyota just said "we're replacing the frames on 96-02 4runners" and that's it. Everyone and their brother would be taking their 4runner in immediately. The gm simply said he was at his meeting and was told that its in the works, have your dealership service staff prepared and what to expect. When Toyota does the frames, they have two techs working on them and that's all they do. The brake lines need made, the fuel lines, control arms, bushings. Toyota has to have enough parts available on hand to meet the demands for this type of recall. Dealerships need an area to store all the frames that come in.. Some dealerships work those techs 4 days a week instead of the normal 5 because that's all they do. This was simply a heads up to the dealers about what's coming..

I really hope this is true cause I am about to look into having my frame rust repaired but am afraid that it might be too much that needs to be done. Mine was purchased new in Colorado and then spent sometime in Michigan and finally ended up in Texas. That's really the only down fall with my 4runner.

Just for the heck of it. What would it take in turn around time to do such a thing?
Would there be certain things that the owner would want to pay for while it is being done?

Sixteen years I've owned my 98, that should be long enough. I have never owned a vehicle this long and have it last this long. Who knew! That's a lot of MI winters.

If Toyota does have plans of such recall, the current register owners would have been sent a letter by Toyota informing them of their intent of such safety repairs. They will not wait until parts are in stock in their warehouses for shipments to dealers.. Toyota has to follow NHTSA guides,http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/documents/recompendium.pdf.
If it does happen it's more likely going to be a CSP (custom support program) campaign. Then this would have to be approve by the dealers region DSPM and/or TAS not you Dealer manager or GM. They will look at vehicle ownership, dealer loyalty(dealer service history), and other factors before such repairs are made.
I assume that you work for a Toyota dealer - Go on to TIS look up how Toyota reports and announce recalls. There is an e-learning module on it and you should be able to see it in T.O.U website.
Also, I really don't think that Dealer are going to be stocking these frames, very unlikely. It's going to be SOP once approved.
Also, it's against the LAW for Toyota to give heads up on safety relate problems that has not been report to the NHTSA and the public (inside information) it's like insider trading information - remember Martha Steward!! Again do your research!! This was one of the topic mentioned in the U.A lawsuit against Toyota.

Would you have to be the original owner of your 4Runner in order for Toyota to replace the frame? My 99 has some rot on the back of the frame..Everything else on my 4Runner is mechanically sound

Not to discredit the OP but I am not holding out much hope that this will be the case. My '01 has rot holes next to the gas tank and on the passenger side in the same area, next to the exhaust. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to get into it some time next year and pull my tank, exhaust, and whatever else is in the way to cut out and repair that rot.
I just did my water pump, timing belt, pulleys, v-belts etc... last night. Tonight I'm doing shocks, sway bar links, valve cover gaskets, fuel filter, find out why my rear diff is leaking (anyone ever have this happen by the way? It's not leaking at the wheel seals. Its leaking right at the pumpkin. Are those little brackets that are welded to it for the brake lines known to rust straight through?)
I've got 209K on it and I plan on getting at least another 50K. I guess I'll wait 'til early next year to see if this frame replace rumor is really going to happen before I decide whether or not to trade it in.

Tacoma, Tundra & Sequoia are all getting frames replaced by Toyota. 4runner should be part of this list. I won't hold my breath but this would be pretty amazing if it did happen.
