Did you actually have it when bought the truck? I know a lot of dealers forget to put that in when they deliver the truck. I don't know what it is, but I see so many 4Runner's and GX470's without that piece. If you want, you can try going back to the dealer and tell them that they never gave you one. It may work.

maybe it fell off? replace it with a warn tow shackle.

I was at the dealer and some guy was pulling them off all the new trucks and putting them in his jacket and he runs down to his car and takes off, salesman comes flying out all :awais: I was like what thats not allowed, I took his plate and car description down and the guy was like thanks

I figured someone would try to steal it sooner or later so I put Epoxy adhesive on the rubber and inserted it in the hitch. If someone tries to take it out they will destroy it and it will be of little use to them in pieces. I will probably never tow but if I do at least I will be the one to remove it.

Mine was stolen a few months ago. I don't know when it was taken, I just noticed one day it was gone.
I worked for a car dealer a number of years ago and we never put antennas on until the car was sold. People would steal those things as if they were worth something. I guess some people will steal anything that isn't bolted down.

Mine disappeared after about 5 months. Not sure what happened...
Lost it at the car wash
No one took mine, but I got the vehicle washed at the local car wash, and it was missing after that. I went back and asked about it, and was told that hitch plugs are always coming off in the wash. They had a whole box of them. Of course, mine wasn't in there, but another one was, which said TOYOTA on it and had the logo. It was pretty new and fit my hitch just fine, so I took it.

i dont believe in those things cause i always leave a short ball mount in the receiver. It provides extra insurance from someone having a parking accident with the rearend and also prevents my wife from scratching the plastic bumper by herself. its locked in place so no worries about thievery.
