Someone tried to steal my catalytic converter.

I would be skeptical of recycling yards saying they don't take catalytic converters. It's a business. I would just ditch that OEM cat while you can and recycle it yourself. These thieves can tell an OEM from aftermarket, and if they want it they will get it. These cat guards just slow them down but I think they will find a way to hack up more stuff to get it out. We are dealing with sub-humans at the end of the day.

Edit - I went to get mine smogged on Tuesday and the data set wasn't ready! I had wired up some aux fogs a week or 2 ago and lost my readiness data while the battery was disconnected! Fun fact: the smog tech (who I have known for 20 years and trust) said I needed to drive it at 60mph for a while. I said I just drove it 250 miles - it should be ready. He asked how fast I was going and I said 70-75. He said NO, not 70, not 50, but 60MPH. As I type this I think i remember reading that somewhere in the past but forgot - Doh!!

I've seen it at a local recycler: they won't take a CC unless you have proof of where it came from. I think it's a good step at reducing the desire to steal cats by also removing where the CCs can be sold.

Same law is in effect in CA but criminals always find a way. It may be that the recycler was previously caught accepting stolen CCs and can no longer take them or the proof of origin process is not worth their time. There is a legit market for used CCs - if yours fails and you have to buy another (or 2) you should be able to recycle it to recoup some money.

I'm not a criminal, but I still found a way to get rid of a crashed (parts truck) 4runner even though I didn't have the title for it... so... yeah, think of what you can do with the right contacts.

I think he's saying the shooter is in prison, which is likely an accurate statement. He shouldn't be in prison, but he probably is.
Anyway, I'll quit ranting about thieves and stop derailing the thread. Glad OP was able to subdue the thief until the cops came.

I think something got lost here.
I was saying that the murder of someone because they were trying to steal a CC was a step or two to far. The thief, if anything, should have been apprehended, not killed.

Yes very true. I think people are just had enough with this lawlessness and that nobody really wants to see anyone killed its just some people would like to see people be responsible and stop steeling cats.

Agreed. The lawlessness is one of the reasons we moved out of the city and into the woods. Just builds a barrier between us and possible wrong-doers.

Probably. And the little bit that I've heard it's probably an upgrade for him to be in jail. He wasn't a saint before the shooting and subsequently dragging the thief to a field.
Either way: not something I would have done. While I might be armed, I'd apprehend, at best. It's not worth the risk to me, plus I know the rules of gun ownership. The shooter in this case over-stepped his legal rights.

Here is a Picture of the plate I made for my 5th gen, its a 3/16" thick plate.
I did a cardboard mock up and adjusted as needed before cutting the final shape. Bolts have been replaced with a few different types of heads including allen heads and some other features.
I removed the two skid bars that connect the cross member to the chassis. (i'm not going to debate the purpose of them here .. it will turn into the usual OEM vs sparkplug type, ball joint rathole that usually starts- feel free to check the 5th gen section for more drama/ info).:argue::guitar2:
