Sometimes it starts..sometimes it doesn't

hello everyone, my first post here and i need help please.
i have a 87 runner and sometimes it will start and other times it requires a jump.
this has been going on for a couple years now. my battery is 21/2 years old and starter is less than a year old.
here it goes..lol...at any given time whether the truck is hot or cold sometimes it wont turn over yet lights, radio all work. sometimes if i hold the key in a few seconds it will start sometimes a rough start., what i meen by rough start is it struggles to get going. and sometimes nothing, it will start quick with a jump. it is happening more frequently now. i know i should have more info to give but i cant think of any right now, please help with some suggestions or questions thanks guys, appreciate it....Danny

I have the same issue. I have yet to solve the problem and I have been tryong for about 10 years. It only happend when my 89 SR5 is hot after running a few errands. I'm still trying to find someone who can properly diagnose and fix the problem.

This is an extremely common problem, I'm surprised a google search didn't give you your answer. 10 to 1 the solenoid contacts in your starter are going out. Read more at: Toyota/Chrysler/Mitsubishi - Nippon Denso Starter Solenoid Repair

I was starting to have that problem too. It turns out my battery cables were pretty corroded.
