Had my SR5 one month exactly and got rear-ended by some wahoo in a ford focus!! Thankfully it doesn't look too bad though; will be taking it into the dealer to repair asap ... hopefully they won't stick me with some crappy rental while she's getting fixed up.

just had to vent :sobbing:

I keep a tow ball on the hitch to help minimize damage, should that happen to me.

Sorry to hear about that. I'd love to see a pic :/

i wonder if one of these might have helped? i'm thinking about getting one for my truck just for this reason

i thought it was illegal to have that on if youre not using it?

I run my dual ball hitch 24/7 365, never had a single word said about it. Well except the few friends who try to walk right behind the SUV and wack their knee :biggrin2:

I have one of these on my T4R Limited. I ordered it from Cabela's. I took it to a machine shop and had an additional set of holes placed on the main shaft toward the tubular bar. Thus, it fits closer to the bumper. I think it looks better and is just as functional!

When dealing with the insurance, let them know that you need an equivalent vehicle or something SUV size because of your job, you need to haul large items, etc. Otherwise, they will stick you in the cheapest car possible.

Good luck and I hope your 4Runner will be good as new ASAP.

here are a few pics of the bumper. The trailer hitch and frame look intact, so I'm guessing they'll only have to replace the bumper. I wish I could have gotten a few pics of the other car. My trailer hitch ripped her front bumper up pretty good!

I really like mine!

Does your's stick straight out from the hitch or does it angle upwards any? I feel like it would afford even better protection if it angled upwards some to give the bumper better protection.

It seems like this thing would not have saved OP from any damage (if it stuck straight out from the hitch) as his damage seems to be higher up on the bumper.

Sorry to hear that.

Those little steps won't help much in the event of an accident and they look goofy. Something stronger like a ball hitch-receiver would probably work better. Those steps may even be in the same category as mods that cause more damage in the event of an accident when compared to not having them there at all. The front grill guards are a good example for something that causes more damage than not having anything.

I am not trying to get into a flame war with those of you who have them, it's just my opinion.

That is not that bad.The damage looks like it's only the plastic bumper cover and is just bolted on. Remove and replace. They will have to buy a new one ,paint it to match and replace yours.Good as new and you'll never know. The rear bumper cover is easy to replace,it's the front one that is pretty involved. Takes about 10 minutes to take it off as I had mine off already. The actual bumper is underneath and is very thick strong steel.

Thanks, everyone, for the thoughts and advice. I went to the body shop today and they confirmed they didn't have any parts in stock for the 2010 T4R (surprise) so they are ordering the bumper. Hopefully it won't take too long to get in and get this over with!

just had to vent :sobbing:

In 2007 I bought a new G35 and had it for less than a week when someone backed into the bumper and dented it. Only had 97 miles on it. I had just finished my birthday dinner at Ruth's Chris and it completely ruined my evening. I felt like my car had been raped.

update

Well, the body shop finally got in the new bumper and molding this week and I should be able to pick up my 4R tomorrow. I'm worried about the paint though ... the estimator told me that blizzard pearl is a difficult color to match, so they might have to 'blend' the new paint by painting some of the fender - WTF?! The thought of them having to do all of this to my NEW RIG is making me sick to my stomach. If I get there tomorrow and the color on the new bumper is obviously "off" I'm going to be PISSED!! I admit I know nothing about paint but I don't see any reason to accept anything less than perfect. Am I being unreasonable??

:dammit:
