Sounds after toytech lift.

I recently lifted my 4th gen with the toytech "ultimate" kit. While I was at it I also got Total chaos UCA, complete new LCA, replaced both CV axles and a diff needle bearing that was shot. The lift looks great but I am having some noise issues from the front end.

At low speeds and at around +80% full turn (either direction but worse turning left) I get this strange popping sound. It's hardcore, loud enough to make my stomach drop the first time I heard it. I tried greasing the steering stops on the knuckle which kind of helped but the sound is still present. I have a sway bar relocation kit, so its not rubbing against the coil. I don't think it is the tie rods, the sound only occurs when I provide some amount acceleration when already in the turn and then it is repetitive with continued forward motion (pop...pop...pop...) Could this be the CV axles binding? My angles are harsh but not the worse I have seen. Im thinking about dropping my front 0.5-.75 inches to see if it disappears. I have heavy front springs but also got my relentless predator bumper on few days after the lift. sound is still there.

I also rarely hear the sound when driving, if im going faster than like 5-8mph I cant reproduce the noise.

any ideas would be appreciated.

I'd go back and double check all the bolts to see if anything is even marginally loose. retorque as needed.

After my lift i had a whole host of these issues. Rechecking and re-torquing led me to find my lower swaybar link was only finger tight. then i had a popping noise. an aftermarket UCA and an allignment solved that, then there was the rubbing, then the dust shields were bent.

Point i am trying to make is that you are going to chase noises for a while and dont let it scare you. It does sound like your cv is binding and a Diff drop MAY fix it. but go backthrough everything first and check your alignment specs.

My first guess is to retorque the alignment cams again. Mine did the same thing when I changed LCAs, I know they need to be super tight, don't remember the torque specs off hand...

I have the diff drop lol I honestly don't think it helped that much. Sounds like rechecking every bolt is the way to go for now. Ill update after...

I'm assuming you went aftermarket with the CV axles?

Jack a tire off the ground and try to spin it by hand to see if the CV binds every 120 degrees.

my guesses would be seized/worn front LCA bushings or you cranked the coilover too much like when you run spacers. the spring bows and the reseats kind of sound

Any pics of the Relentless bumper? Was planning to get the same one but their lead times is ridiculous long

The lead time is miserable, I also got their slider which made it even longer. In all it took 5 months for me to get my order but that's also what was advertised at the time. The build quality is very impressive. I was planning to buy wheels before it arrived but cash is tight rn lol. Overall I think it was worth the wait, by far my favorite bumper on the market.



also a side note to previous posts, haven't retorqued anything yet but will update when I do.
