Spacing Out!

After much reading here and contemplating, I said effit and bought 1.5" wheel spacers, forged aluminum with high grade bolts, from ebay. The ride: '03 SR5 V8 2WD. They were professionally installed by my friend's shop yesterday. The little rubbings were eliminated with some minor trimming using my trusty multi-tool, Gerber LMF II Infantry fixed blade knife - zero vibration up to 90s, still go straight and smooth. At 185K miles, don't really care about the premature wears whatever at this point. What say you?

I think it looks awesome but i already get black tire crap all over my shorts every time i load the carseat so i'm going to have to wait a few years.

pffft premature wear... you'll want new tires in less than 40k anyway.

That's so true and funny. I got the black tire dressing smeared on my tan pants two weeks ago after the truck was detailed. That was before the spacers were installed. Stupid craps we, I, do for looks with little added performance. Well, it's cheaper than blows and ho's....Maybe.

Ok, here's an observation just after a 200-mile trip on the freeway: I feel a much softer suspension/ride on the freeway - like being on a ship, riding in a big old Cadillac or Lincoln Towncar, a bit floaty. Is it because the wheels are now further away from the mounting hubs (due to 1.5" spacers) and I'm experiencing a magnified suspension travel? Someone explain this to me. Even my GF commented on the much softer/smoother ride and she didn't know about the wheel spacers. I have Bilstein 5100s all around. Does anyone else has a similar experience? Actually, it's an unintended benefit. Thanks.

eBay seller's name is rdcobra-something right? I also have a set of 1.5", they'll be used on my '02 though. Are you running any lift and what tire size?

Did your friend use loctite and what did he torque them down to?

Yep, that's the same eBayer - I think they're local in Los Angeles area. I have 3"/2" suspension lift spacers with Bilstein 5100 Series shocks: super comfy ride. The Firestone Destination ATs are 255/75/R17 (maybe 275/70/R17 next time). Used red Loctite and torqued down to 85.
