Spam in For Sale Forums

I don't know why this is such an issue in the for sale forums, but what can we do to stop it? I hardly ever see spam in the 3rd gen, general discussion, off-topic, and off road forums that I frequent the most.

What is stopping them from posting in these forums and drawing them to the FS forums? Maybe we can implement whatever rules we have in those forums to the FS forums?

Just some thoughts since it seems to have gotten worse here as of late.

That's what I thought too, but either that rule isn't applied to the FS forums or they are finding some way around it because they only have like 4 posts.

I also noticed some threads in the vehicles classifieds by people with under 15 posts and just joined, stuff like that just invites vehicle flippers,not enthusiasts.

There's a forum I frequent with a 150 meaningful post minimum to sell parts and 200 to sell vehicles unless a senior member or moderator can vouch for you, maybe T4R should implement something similar.

Spammers are a terrible parasite.... The only way to get rid of them is to make it not worth their while by taking down their posts before they can make money off of them or by preventing them from starting a post.... If they can't make money off of using T4R as their vehicle then they will find another soft target forum to use..... The 15 post rule works for all of the subforums where it has been implemented and is the low maintenance approach but some have complained that it is too difficult to acquire the necessary 15 posts and so apparently the decision has been to allow some subforums to let them start a post with no post history.... Unfortunately the spammers have found this chink in the armor and those subforums are pretty much useless on any day where there is any major sporting event.... Mods have been trying to police it but it is a lot of work and requires a dedication, particularly on the weekends, which apparently is not the case....

Minimum post count clearly is the solution that would cleanly return the forum to the community..... Those that whine about not being able to start a post until some minimum participation criteria has been met should buck up for the good of the community....

That's one example,and the way he posted the price sounds more like a feeler than definite $. There's another one selling a sc'd 3rd-gen who I think had ZERO posts prior to starting his FS thread...someone called him out about owning it for barely a week or so because he was about to purchase it from the previous seller.

Honestly, if you have less than 15 posts here I don't want you selling stuff. You obviously aren't here to contribute, only to sell something.

Getting 15 posts is super easy. Tell 5 different people in all three major generations sub forums that you like their build. It would take 5 minutes if you were in a rush.

Honestly the for sale forums should require more than 15 posts. Like Ed said, some forums require many more posts as a safety feature to help protect the members from scammers who show up just to screw someone over.

I say make the 15 posts rule a commonality across all the forums here at least. That would cut out all of the spam and the few users it would block would just have to get over it.

These spammers are finding a way around the newly implemented 15 post rule and I believe [MENTION=5653]admin[/MENTION] is trying to find out how. I and others are trying to keep up with the spammers. We're not on every day, and most the time I'm not around on the weekends. I know other mods are the same. Just keep reporting them.

Oh, and there's no designation for mods towards specific sections. We do tend to stick to the specific gen section that we own. But, we all do float around to the other sections.

Thanks for the update, we appreciate what you guys do. I wasn't sure if you were assigned sections or not, the other forum I'm on has mods assigned to each section so I wasn't sure if T4R worked the same way.

Can you explain why you care so much about the price someone asks for their vehicle?

It's really simple: If the price is too high, it won't sell.

As of yesterday @ 3:50pm the entire classifieds section was applied to the 15 post rule. Admin took a look at the sections applied and not every section of the classifieds were checked off. Now they are.

If you see any that sneak by, somehow, please report them and we'll bring it to admins attention.

Much appreciate the good work the mods do! Not the easiest job in the world but really makes a difference in the quality of the forum! You guys are one of the reasons this forum rocks! :thumb:
