Spam - Please read

You barely broke 300 posts and already have given up. Your good-bye statements reads as if it is obvious you'll be missed.

Did you offer to be a mod? You know it is an unpaid job here on forum. These folks are volunteers.

Lol. Should I start a few extra 'will it rub' threads to up my post counts because that's what matters in life :)

I actually hope not to be missed when I'm gone... suppose I would join instagram and facespace if that were my goal in life. Take only memories and leave only footprints... ah to dream of an everlasting legacy on the inter webs... dream big!

No, I did not offer to be a mod. Did you realize that mods don't have the power to solve the root of the problem? You do know the owner of the site does this either
1) out of the goodness of their heart
or
2) for $

They do get money from advertising, but if it's not enough and they need more cash to get a better software package or pay someone that is competent enough to do it, then they need to ask either for donations or have some t-shirt sales or something. Someone is paying for the hamsters to keep the servers running, and a big thank you to them for keeping this going. The bottomline is that the mods are over worked and can't resolve this on their own. The admin / site owner is not resolving the issue (although after my previous post they may be taking some better corrective actions but we'll see).

Yeah, I'm not ready to throw in the towel here just yet, but I created an account the other place as Faux_Pro. Sick and tired of having my email alerts blow up with nothing but spam.

I'm not totally giving up hope, but since nothing was done about it until members started a mini-revolt I don't hold out a ton of hope continued site security will be a priority.

I really don't care if they're pissed off, do something about it. They get too many emails? Ah well, too bad, so do we when we get notifications for BS posts. They don't like me reporting legitimate spam, they can ban me, simple as that. Lets see how much longer this place is around at this rate anyway. Don't know about you all but I've about had it. I come here because it used to be an awesome forum, great people, lots of great info. It is still all those things but so much time is wasted on BS posts it's just getting old. It's clear the mods seem to care, I guess, but the admin couldn't care less. Maybe the admin needs to move over and let someone else do his job for him. He chose to do this job, no one forced him, so do it!

really cool and understanding attitude man. way to shit on the people who are just trying to help, while also proving you are unable to comprehend what's been written in this thread several times about the permissions mods have. rather than act like you don't care about being banned, why not just leave.

Does Admin own the site?
Is Admin a paid position?
Does the site generate some revenue via ads for the owner(s)?
Was Admin working on this fix for the entire time or was it more of a "O yey, yea let me look into that - 3hrs of work later - 99% fixed..."?

Any way to find this information out?

While the answers shouldn't really matter it does irck me that this went on for weeks, maybe even months before really getting addressed - member time was wasted but even more vexing is all the mod time wasted in trying to keep up/clean up the forums that's extremely disrespectful for admin/owners to have not done anything while our mods got beat on trying to fix it.

At the end of the day its still the same place it was years ago it just got buried in spam and the ratio of re-hashed threads increases, as one would expect as the platform ages.

I did check out the other "major" 4runner forum player and it seemed not only much slower but just as many "will it rub" type threads - the one were the guy got a fair deal at 60k on a TRD Pro made me chuckle.

I'll sign up to do the same job you do, point me in the right direction. I'm more than willing and happy to help out. The point in having a report button is to use it. If you guys don't want posts reported, remove the icon.

Admin. posted that he wants us to keep reporting spam because that helps the system learn. And as frustrating as it is i do not think a mod that calls people names, and asks them to leave is helping.

Truth is, most mods are children on a power trip. To be clear, that's generally not the case here. The little correspondence I've had with the mods here has always been pleasant which is a nice change. Same goes for the "other" page, mods over there are great also. He needed to vent, doesn't bother me one bit. Now here's what every mod needs to realize. No one forced them to be a mod, if they don't like it, quit. Mods in general are a representative of the admin. This forum may (unlikely) pay the admins bills. Think of it as you owning a business. Piss off your customers (forum members) and you no longer have a business (forum) Like most things in life, there are plenty of other options. No one wins with that kind of attitude. I'm a foreman at my job, I treat the company I work for as if I owned it. I treat all employees with respect, I do what I can to help them in any way I can any time day or night. I do everything I can to keep people happy, save the company money, keep people safe, you get the idea. I would never dream of telling anyone "you're unhappy, there's the door" Just food for thought.

Admin...Call Pat at KTMTALK. The layout is nearly identical to here yet He has ZERO spam! It CAN be fixed....good luck!:cheer2:

admin, Not to add more work for anybody, but has anyone noticed that @Utelp only posts to the 5th Gen section?

I'm sure it's a software loophole they have found to keep getting in, but why only the 5th Gen section, why not the whole board. Why not an equal opportunity spammer? Might be worth looking into, somethings keeping them out of the other sections....

you really don't get it. let me try and super dumb it down for you. all the mods are aware of the insane amount of spam. all we can do is delete it and ban the account that will never post again anyway. that's it. i don't need someone to report something as obvious as thousands of spam posts a day. I see them the second i get on. i'm a member here just like you (though i've been around a lot longer and contributed way more) and i'm not going to logon to delete spam posts each time i get a report email. especially because the second i delete hundreds of spam posts there are already more popping up. I simply asked that people not report the obvious, and flood the mods inboxes. i don't think that's a terribly unreasonable request from someone that voluntarily tries, and has tried to keep this section clean and organized for years. but i guess i could also just be a child on a power trip.

Youre a MOD here. You shouldnt being doing anything else in your life but deleting spam on a Toyota 4Runner forum. What has the world come to, when we cannot expect someone volunteering to spend every waking moment tending to the needs of the internet. Get off your power trip.. its like being a child with new found power!! /s:ban:

It's very clear you didn't read my whole post. You only took from it what you wanted to. Tell me how you contribute more than me? We have about the same post count, I reached out to you and offered to help, yet you never responded? Seems you've shown your true colors, good day sir.
