Spare tire bits...

Hi..

This question has probably been asked before, but I want to make as sure as I can that I've got the correct info rather than what i found through google.

I bought my 4Runner in July last year, I've recently put 4 new tires on, I'm thinking about going on a 800k roadtrip so i'd like to check the spare (which looks new), however I've got tools missing to lower it, and not sure what I should have or, could use instead of.

All I have, is the bar under the seat, and the bottle jack under the carpet flap.. so i believe there should be something that goes on the end of the long metal rod so I can drop the tire down, but does that also undo the wheel nuts as well?.. Would i be able to get something from say bunnings to use in its place? (The wrecking yard here is the only one, so they charge whatever they like, the more you need it, the more they seem to charge)

If you are asking how to lower the spare tire then I got that answer. If you look at your bars that come with the truck, the ones that connect to the bottle neck jack. You just put it all together and put it through the hole in the rear bumper and twist. Sometimes the little mechanism that let's the tire down gets rusted and stuck, if that happens just disconnect the bar that goes to it and used a cresent wrench. It takes forever but it works out well. the end you use to lower it is the hook on the end of the bar to lower it if you choose to go through the rear bumper.

Thanks.. although I did know most of that lol.. I've got bits missing, as I've only got the long bar with the hook on the end, and the bottle jack.. nothing to undo nuts with, or nothing to put on the end of the long hook bar to be able to twist it.

There is a flat handle that goes on the end of the bar to turn it.

The stock lug wrench is pretty lame, just get yourself one from the local parts store, or get a 2 ft long 1/2" drive breaker bar and socket.
