Add me to the list for people whose old cable style carrier frayed and had to be replaced with the new chain style spare tire mount. Part was well under $200, and it's not all that hard to replace.

Even with air tools with cutting discs, it was a PITA for me! My old one on my 2003 was so rusted and fused, i had to cut all the bolts that held it to the cross member!
I was sure to extend the new one fully, lube that sucker up with anti-seize, and test it a few times after install.
I never want to have to do that again!

Tire monitor light came on this AM... Checked the 4 rolling tires and they are fine so guess who needs to be checked!!! My mechanism wouldn't budge, then it just snapped. Tires is tight to bottom but the mechanism turns freely.
Any thoughts on how to get this bad boy apart?

Looks like I got lucky... I cracked off the plastic cover and sprayed the assembly with WD-40. Let it sit 15 minutes or so and it cranked right down.
My cable is quite frayed... Time to see if Rock Auto had the chain or cable version.
Update: Just checked RockAuto, they do not offer the part...

any tips on getting the spare tire valve cover off?..seems mine is fused to the valve body!...thinking of heating it up a lil...not sure if its gonna work or damage something

Before using heat, I would try some type of penetrating oil like WD-40/PB-Blaster. The heat could damage the seal in the valve stem, and might require replacing the whole unit, which will be expensive if you have TPMS on the vehicle.
My rear door was frozen shut once. I figured out how to pop it from the inside so that I could then replace the latch portion. After installing the new latch, it still didn't work. It is then that I learned via searching that the latch has to be programmed similar to a key or key fob. Make sure your latch didn't lose the programming. After changing my latch, I wonder if that was the problem all along.
Thanks, what was the solution in opening the door? I've removed the cover, but don't see any obvious latches or switches which would release the lock.
Sorry to say but I can't remember too well. Seems like something stuck out the side of the plastic casing that I pulled down on.

After having the same issue I spoke to a friend told me to try DEEP CREAP $10 it is a white bottle with green lettering, let it sit the night go back hit under and the hole where the jack goes the best stuff I ever tried haven't used wd40 since. I use it on everything.In the automotive stores.Get the jack squared away in the hole correctly feel for it and spray under as well should work.
