Spare Tire Fit

Alphi, the 275/70/17 bfg ko2 or original bfg? I'm running 275/70/17 ko2s and was getting ready to try a full size spare.

I have the KO2's. It hits the Sport receiver hitch and the rear track bar. I have tried a number of times to squeeze and finagle it in there with no luck. I now put the spare up on my Rolla rack for trips and offroad. When the funds come around Ill just put a swingout on the back and put the spare where it belongs.

Not Alpinhi, but I have an '03 V8 with the Tow Package. Aired down to about 20PSI I got a 275/70R17 KO2 (brand new) in the stock location. Is it tight as hell with the hitch and panhard bar? Absolutely. But it fits and I probably have a couple of millimeters of space.

I haven't tried airing it down and putting it back yet, thats good to know. I will just stick with it up top for now so I have a fully inflated spare to run on. We pull a camper during the summer with 4R and spend alot of time offorad. For me having a fully inflated spare up and out of the way works best for me. I may try and air it down in the fall put it back when the towing season is over.

I've decided to with Hankook Dynapro ATM P265/70R17 for my next set of tires.

Anyone know if it will fit in the spare mount?

I have the same tire and mine does not fit at all. I havent tried airing down mainly because mine also has the TPMS sensors and I don't want it on all the time. Right now I just keep it in the back. I'll end up getting a swing out for it. I could put it on the roof but then it doesn't fit in my garage and I don't want to remember to remove it everyday after I hit the trails.

good call. I would have same issue too if I tried to jam aired down tire in there.

This thread seems to be the collection for what will or will not fit in the OEM Spare location, so I will add my experience.

Vehicle = '03 V8 tow package and TRD dual side exit exhaust.

Tire = 255/75R17 Load C Duratrac on Level 8 wheel

Hits the panhard, hitch, and/or exhaust at 10psi. I might try wrapping a cam strap around the tire to see if I can get a little more compression. To even get the wheel in or out to test fit I had to kick the *&% out of the tire to squeak it past the narrow point no matter which way I tilted the wheel as I lifted.

Sorry to revive a month old thread but finally got my spare bfg 275/70/17 ko2 mounted under my 07 v8 sport with heavy tow package. Tire has about 10k miles but fits fully aired up and all my tpms are working!

Thought this would be usefull for anyone thinking about this tire, it will fit!!!

Sorry to revive a month old thread but finally got my spare bfg 275/70/17 ko2 mounted under my 07 v8 sport with heavy tow package. Tire has about 10k miles but fits fully aired up and all my tpms are working!

Thought this would be usefull for anyone thinking about this tire, it will fit!!!

I stuffed a 255/80/17 KM2 under mine, but there's no air in it. I've got OBA though so no big deal.

which one do you use? I've been looking at this option and not sure if a hard wire one is better or getting one of those portable ones you plug in to the cigarette lighter.

I'm running a single ARB. Don't get the cigarette lighter one, you'll either blow out a fuse or burn up the compressor. If you don't want hard wired OBA, get one that connects to the battery via clips.

Just an FYI that I've got a 275/65/18 GY ATS tire with about 50% tread in the spare location on my 2006 V8. 1/4" of room around the hitch and about 1" from the PH bar. Just in case that helps...

yep, i went to discount today and they were able to fit it in the spare tire spot no issues.
I've had the factory tire there for 9 years, about time I replaced it.

Measured from panhard bar to cross-member.

For future reference, the BFG AT KO2 in 285/60R18 size fit just fine in the spare location on my '05 Limited.
