Spare tire is rubbing the Gibson exhaust

I have a new set of Falken Wilpeak AT3, 265 70 17 and the spare tire is touching the Gibson exhaust pipe. This wasn't the case with the Michelin 265 65 17s. Even when I move it toward the drive side and tighten up the holding mechanism, she eventually moves over to the pass side and rests on the exhaust pipe. Before I come up with a band aid fix, has anyone else had this issue?

Perhaps call Gibson exhaust and tell them their pipes are touch your spare. I doubt it's your spares fault lol, it was there first.

If they are no help you might just need to fabricate some sort of hear shield or spacer to keep the tire clearanced.

Perhaps your new set of tires which are around 1" bigger in diameter has something to do with this issue. :noidea:

I bet its the combo of larger tire plus non OEM exhaust. But, I'm surprised that no one else has this issue. I'll rework the exhaust hanger.

Not running that exhaust, but I did run those tires in that size. They run larger than most other tires with that tire size and it was super close to the trackbar on mine. You might check with a muffler shop and have them adjust the exhaust slightly

My Gibson exhaust was impossible to install without touching the frame. I had to take it to a very reputable exhaust shop and they ended up having to make a bunch of modifications. My guess is it's the exhaust that is the problem.

I had this issue with the Gibson exhaust, although mine was a v6 and the spare was 255/75/17. I just ran it and checked the spare occasionally for damage, but never saw anything.

Thanks for checking. You have a true 32" tire so I'd have thought there might be some rubbage but glad to hear that's not the case.

its most likely the gibson exhaust. although it was decently made and sounded fine it never really followed the factory routing from what i remember. but my exhaust is now all custom from the flange back since i pretzeled the whole thing over a year ago. but that combo of tire and the gibson just lazily following the stock routing is your issue, probably have to take it to an exhaust shop.

Just re-route the exhaust out to the side just after the tire and you won't have to worry about it rubbing the spare.

Are you able to keep the resonator for side exhaust outlet?

I didn't keep mine and I'm not sure if there would even be enough room for it at that location. I guess you would just have to hold it up there and see how it fits. You could always buy a smaller resonator if you absolutely had to have one.

Oh yes, I have to have one. That exhaust droans too much without one, just like any other after market system.
