Hi !

Just changed my spark plug ('04 V8 4.7L w. 70k miles) ! Like I was told on another post it was not to hard of a job to do !

I just have couple question regarding the tip color of the spark plug... (look at the picture)

Some plug have a bit of white corrosion on the bent end ... does that mean something special ? I know it's good when they are brown ... but they are REALLY light white and it goes of when I scrub with my fingers. Any idea on that ?

Also 4 of the plug have a bit of black residue just where the plug metal gasket meet the plug body (look at picture) ... I believe that is just because the plug were not bolted tight enough and over 70K of road some of the gaz/oil leaked a bit by the gasket ... do you think im right on that ?

Thanks for your help !

Interesting, the 2nd picture you posted looks like what appears to be oil saturation on the plug (s) which almost looks like a Valve Cover gasket leak. But if there is no oil leaks that you can see, It could be a slight mixture like you say. keep an eye out on them. Check your Fuel Filter(Even though you don't have that many miles) and/or PVC.

Thanks guy

Air filter is not bad ... I brought a new one and will change it but there were nothing special but dust in it ...

The amount of oil/gaz we can see on the plug ass been accumulated on 70k mile of use cause they were never changed before (by previous owner) so that little of oil on 10 years and 70 k miles is not much I think ... I will get the coils off in a month or two to see if i can see oil again on the new plugs.

About the color of the plug (whiteish) you guys don't see anything special there ?
awdjunkies what is the PVC im not familiar with this word
ebg18t don't know MAF as well

sorry im newbie in mechanic

Thanks

I'm not a Toyota mechanic (a Harley technician actually) but those plugs look just fine to me (they look a lot like the ones I pulled out of my wife's 07 limited last summer with 75K on the odo). I'd torque in some new ones and run it. If you have no engine codes or runability issues why go looking for trouble where there is none....

nothing to analyze here... drive it.
