how long have you gone without a spark plug change?


i changed mine at 153K to find NGk on one side and denso on the other.

wasnt pretty. and i defiantly noticed increased performance :driving:

my dad bought new in 2000.
i got in 09

my dad thought the spark plugs were a lifetime component so he never changed them

Yep. Toyota had contracts with denso and ngk so 1 bran went in one side and the other went into the other. I think they still do that on some models

That is interesting, I will have to check mine. I am going to replace them this spring. Which is better, Denso or NGK?

After reading all the posts on changing out spark plugs, I decided to change mine. No problems, but as they are 12 years old and have 77K on them I figured it couldn't hurt. BTW, the vehicle is a 98 T4R, limited.

This first pic is of the 3 NGK plugs and a new NGK plug. They were removed from the passenger side.

Thought I would add a pic of my plug installer!!! A short length of 3/8 fuel line.

Works great without a chance of cross threading!!

id go with the NGK. they looked to be in better shape when i had pulled mine out. also in the picture above the NGK has less wear

I would agree the NGK had less wear on the electrode, the only thing I can attribute the NGK being darker on the threads is that the spark plugs on that bank seemed not as tight as the other bank.

I also thought they looked pretty good for plugs with 77K on them. I bought the T4R when it had 73K on it last year, so I don't know how it was driven.

I bought my truck with 176K on it and it now has 181K. I changed the plugs and wires today. The pics below show how old the wires were and I pulled NGK out of one bank and Denso out of the other. Originals??

I got my 4Runner in 1999 with 6 miles on it. Never changed the spark plugs until this past Friday (almost 208,000 miles). It runs better than it has in years. Was an easy fix. Took me about an hour. The NGK plugs were in better condition than the Densos.

Guys the runner has a "Waste spark" ignition system meaning the spark travels in a different direction on the two banks. That is the reason the wear appears different between the NGK and the ND plugs. If you had all NGK or all ND, you would see roughly the same wear patterns on the drivers side plugs vs the passenger side plugs.
