I can confirm for a fact (it's in the FSM) that the fuel pump is only energized when either the starter is energized or there is a signal from the crank sensor that the engine is running. Nothing happens at key on.

Thanks. That’s what I figured. All fuel systems have a leak down test. Even the best system will not hold pressure overnight. Toyota does thing differently than what I’m use too. Their miss-fire detection sucks.

Well, with the 1k ohm per foot mag core wire set from advanced auto/car quest I got 20mpg driving for work only which is 27 miles of rural two lane roads. 501-419-322 from Myerstown PA to Hershey PA.

It’s the best I ever got but I was getting 19.2 to 19.8 before the lower ohm mag core set from CarQuest.

FWIW I've got almost 390k on Original Plug Wires and Coils. I know because I asked the PO that I bought it from, who bought the truck with 40k. He said he changed the spark plugs around 200k, and then never got around to changing them again. I'm putting OEM wires on when I do my VC gaskets. The wires themselves are fine, but the clips and protectors are all crumbling. Can't got wrong with something that lasts that long!

When I pull them, I'll post up the resistance values.

Thanks Shadow as I will be curious what those values are as well as the values of the original OEM wires that are being junked as a curiously. I never ran wires that long. :-)

Thanks for sharing that is excellent news. :-)

Would someone mind breaking this down more simply for me....

I'm not understanding why just going to the dealer and getting the OEM harness is not just a simple answer. Are you saying that there are variances even within the OEM parts? So that if I got the harness from the dealer I should verify the resistance before installing?

I'm doing my VC gaskets and figure it's a good time to replace my original wire harness.... I was going to go with the NGK TE-66 because it seems like everyone runs them, but if the OEM is only $45, I'd get whichever is the preferred option. Any help would be great.

I’m thinking that since this is a info thread that it’s just asking the wire resistance of different wire sets and types.

If you get the set from the dealer please record the wire resistance here if you have a meter.

Also I got 20.88mpg on my last work stretch. I’ve never been above 20 before the mag core wire set. However, it is also getting warmer outside.

Because for a while the OEM replacements dissapeared then returned and sometimes aftermarket replacements are better. Being some of us are engineers. We are always trying to find ways to improve things. In 20 years lots of things change. So it's quite possible that a wire out there will function better and last longer then OEM. Also this is a information consolidation thread. I hope this answers your question. :)

Yes we need the resistance values for OEM wires. Plus all the information for the 4 cylinder. :D

I replaced my wires recently - I believe they were OEM wires. I can get a reading on them if you guys like, but they may have 160k on them.

I checked the resistance, These were what I beleive to be OEM wires: The ones with P, Q, Q on the spark coil side of the wire.

The Kilo ohm values were:
Short: 15.4
Med: 15.7
Long: 17.4

The OEM wires are clearly marked SUMITOMO and have the year of manufacture on the wire insulation.

For everybody, do not assume anything you get from the dealer is OEM. The dealers frequently sell the Denso wires which are just as aftermarket as the NGKs in this application.

So please specify if wires you get from the dealer are SUMTITOMO OEMs or Denso aftermarkets.

Thanks TheDurk. :) As he is 100% correct. :)

Wires degrade in time. There is nothing wrong with reporting used wire resistances at all . I am really after the new wire resistances for comparisons. As the wires with the lowest resistance and the longest lifespans will be the winners of this informational thread. :)

I can say the Pep Boys mag core wire set that was a true 1k ohm per foot lasted over 10 years on my 88 Dodge Daytona.

Only reason I replaced the bosch preimum wire sets was when one pulled apart.

The Ex’s Bosch preimum set burned through the boot on the coil. So the whole set got replaced.

I never did get any 4 cylinder information for this thread. :-( I wanted to condense it but I see that the standard users or OP cant delete comments to condense the thread that I moved into the first post. Oh well. :-) Eventually I guess I can copy first post into a new post when I get all the information for it. :noidea:

hoping someone can answer...when adding the DENSO 6731201 coil on plug on Rockauto it suggest to replace the corresponding connector (if needed) WVE 1P1792, is this something that is really needed?

Sorry for the noob question, just trying to make sure I get everything I need.

Thanks in advance!
