Speaker audio fitment measurements?

Didn't see any write ups on speaker fitment, I know there has to be one somewhere. Looking for something that tells me what size speakers are in my 01 4runner SR5 and what size aftermarket ones will fit.

your front doors are 6.5 and the rears are 5.25 the tweeters I think are 1.25.
The rear doors you can fit shallow mount 6.5 but you will need to fab a new plate and ring out of wood or MDF. Its not hard you will need a jig saw to do it though and play around with the position, more forward and down a little.you need shollow mount to clear the window, if not the window will hit the magnet on the speaker. I recomend getting a roll of corpet pad(you can get it at lows or home depot $25 for 25') its the stuff that goes down under carpet in your house and some sticky spray and cut it to fit the back side of your door panels it will help the sound in your truck a lot cuts down on rattel noise.

You need an adapter to get the 5.25 to fit, just a heads up.

Dude just leave the rear speakers alone. Invest whatever amount of money that you were planning on using for 4 speakers for just high quality fronts. It'll give you the best sound for sure.

This...I have done this twice on two separate 4runners. I even ran an amp to one set of them. At no time did I find they gave any worth while improvement over the stock rears. Actually, I found the midbass to be better of the stock rears on headunit power so thats what I'm running now with new component speakers up front.

You could always custom mount some kick panels for the rear doors and get whatever you want to fit in there. But like others have said the rear speakers are really not worth the effort otherwise. You could put better speakers in there but where they are located you aren't going to get much benefit.

I love upgrading the sound systems in my cars but for the 4Runner I just put in a decent HU and plan on adding some padding to the door panels to keep them from rattling.

If I were really wanted more sound I would build 2 small custom enclosures for the rear seat head rests (no one uses them anyway) and put a set of 6x9s in there facing forward. All the sound (and some added bass) that you could want. Slap some padding and a nice cloth cover and you could make it all but invisible. Hmmm...I think I will have to look into doing that now that I just thought of it. And yes, I know they would look like really huge headrests but you could always put some smaller component speakers in there for a smaller look.

I guess its all a matter of opinion. I replaced the fronts and rears, and went with a good mid grade set of speakers that worked well with the HU. I get good quality sound all the way around, and am even thinking of a amp to the speakers.

You just verified what I said, it doesn't bolt right in, you have to modify it. If your speaker is too deep as well it will either break the glass, or not allow the back window to roll down.

I like having rear speakers. Well, not me but my kiddos, they like jamming out. So when I redid my stereo I included the rear speakers in my build.
