Specific questions about 2004s

To those guys w/the answers:

1] What is the 13mm x 13mm door, or port, just north of the PARK position on the shifter plate?

2] Sales brochure says auto-off headlights are standard. How is this adjusted/controlled, or am I just naive to have believed a sales brochure?

3] Do the red lights in the rear bumper function, other than reflect?

4] Could one not make "door only" keys @ a locksmith, to @ least get in, in case of lockout? You could keep the valet key in there.

5] Am I the only one whose fob allows the rear window to go down only, not up? I've even inverted the fob & pushed it: still only down! Why would Toyota do this?

1.) No answer....yet.

2.) Auto off headlights work if you leave your lights on and shut the truck off the lights go out in about 30 seconds. If you have them on and leave the key in the acc position they will go off in about 30 minutes. there is no auto on as part of this feature, that part came only on the Limiteds.

3.) Only reflect. The Japanese domestic market gets rear fog lights in this location. some people on this board have modded them to be additional brake lights and such.

4.) My dealer gave me a plastic key in a credit card like frame, had it cut for my truck and can now store it in my wallet or anywhere else. will open doors but will not start truck because of the transponder in the original key.

5.) haha lol, you inverted the key fob, that's funny. But yes it would have been useful but maybe there is a safety issue with it, I don't know.

Yes, I had a locksmith make me a couple of keys for this purpose. These will open the door but if you use them to try to start the car it will crank but never start.

1. this is a cover to manually over ride the shift lockout

2. if you leave your lights on when you turn the vehicle off, they will turn off after so long,. if you turn on the lights after the engine is off they will stay on alot longer till the on board computer senses a battery drain and will shut them off. the auto on is when you start the vehicle up, since the switch is already in the on position.

4. i had the dealer make me normal extra keys so i can lock my doors while the vehicle is running during the extreme cold winters up here (up to -50F). the extra keys will not start the vehicle since they dont have chips in them, just have them make extra keys using the key # plate that came with your keys.

5. most likely safety issue (mentioned before) or accidently rolling it up with something sticking out the back in case you keep the fob seperate from your keys (pants, etc).

i've also had a spare key made at a local ace hardware store. it only opens the doors of course because it has no chip.

Yup. "Auto-up" requires an sensor to reverse the window if an object is encountered.

Seems simple enough, but the bean counters prevailed. I think a rear window auto close would be much more useful than the one on my passenger door.

Someone already mentioned, it's a manual override for the shifter lockout. Here's from the Manual for a 2003 V6.

Funny, but I don't happen to carry a small screwdriver with me, so their method would leave me begging for something that might work. " Excuse me sir, do you have a small screwdriver I can borrow, I need to steal my truck"

And Toolman, I do carry a small screwdriver. And a big screwdriver, and wrenches, hammer, tie-wraps & duct tape, But then I 've been in Jeeps since '93....

You have auto-up on the passenger side? Mine is only on the driver's door!

hmmm, thats strange...my 02 has auto up/down on passenger side. comes in handy....and the remote can only roll down tailgate window..an up option would be great

Yep, Toyota made many giant steps forward with the 4th generation, and a coupla small stumbles backwards, like eliminating the passenger auto up/down.
