In the process of replacing idler arm, upper and lower ball joints, driverside half axle, tie rods, shocks and any additional items I come across while front end is disassembled. It's on a 90 4runner 4x4 and an issue is on the passengerside I found excessive wear between the spindle and axle shaft and would like to know if it's possible to repair; if so, does it require any special tools. I have basic machanical skills but this is a 1st working on 4runner, and in particular a 4x4. Any input, advice would be appreciated!! Dave

Could you be more specific, maybe with pics? The CV shaft should wear before the spindle does.

Sorry, think it may be matter of my using the wrong term in describing the part. I will need to clean the part, hopefully by then there will be enough sun to take pic's. Posting a pic of the part I came across online.

I see that you said you had wear "between" the spindle and the axel. Did you get all this once you had started the disasembly or before? Also can you describe the play?

Developed a slight shimmy at around 35mph and over period of 3-4 months progressively got worse. Jacked up the front end and found very little play on the driverside, if any, but the passengerside was very loose, primarily from side to side and less up/down, appeared majority of the movement was in the idler arm. Not sure what to expect but before I pulled the front axle it seemed to me it was pretty sloppy between the axle shaft and housing. Now that I have cleaned the parts it appears there's a brass bushing, whether or not it's excessively worn or scared I will see if the parts person has an opinion. Now with the front end pretty much disassembled figure I will replace everything except the upper and lower control arm bushings.
