I lifted my '95 4Runner four years ago with progressive lift springs from Performance Products and Edelbrock shocks in both front and rear. Also did torsion and sway bars. Total lift was just about an inch.
Soon after, I split my left CV boot. Changed that axle. The next month my right CV boot split. Another axle change. I was at 115k at the time, so I just figured it was about that time.
But about a year and 5000 miles later (no, I don't drive it much) the right boot split again. This time I just had the boot replaced. And then the left boot split again after 7000 miles. And now at 130k the left boot split again.
I don't go 4 wheeling or off roading, I usually just drive it 6 miles to work and back. The lift was minor and I don't understand how or why it would cause the boots to split. But nothing else was done that could cause this.
I've taken it to two good mechanics who know Toyota trucks and 4 wheel vehicles and both say there is nothing that should be causing this. We checked to make sure the boots are the correct ones and they were not being stretched to their limits and they are not.
Anyone else have this problem or have any ideas why this might be happening?
