Sprint Booster SALE for 4th gen 4Runner, Limited time. Reduces delay of drive by wire

I'm still on the fence on this thing in spite of the all of the positive reviews. Just wish it was a bit cheaper.

I’m in the same boat here. It seems good to go based on others reviews but i am a bit skeptical of the benefits. With that said, even if it does what it advertises it seems a bit pricey for what it is. I would love to try it with the pricing it is.

Anyone in the Folsom/greater Sacramento area with a V8 4Runner and one of these installed?

I also would love to get one but having trouble justifying the cost and return, so I did a little basic math, performance aside, if you do indeed gain more MPGs with the device and many are saying around 2 MPG gain, if you just go with 1 MPG gain and say you fill up around every 3 weeks as I do get an average of say 15 MPG you would save around $53+/- depending gas price a year, so it would pay for itself in about 5 1/2 years, if it gains you the reported 2 MPG it would paid for itself in under 3 years, if you fill up more often than I do or get better than 15 MPG average it would pay for itself sooner, I used $2.20 a gallon in my math, so I would say anywhere from 2 to 6 years for it to pay for itself, if the performance enhancement is important to you that's another deciding factor.

So it seems it does give you a return on your investment and in a few years will actually save you money, I guess it all depends on how long you intend to keep your T4R, I intend to keep mine until it dies so my deciding factor is how long will that be, which is unknown but with these T4Rs the odds are in our favor for longevity.

That being said, I'm still undecided, I have checked around for a better price and Jason is selling for less than anyone by around 5% or more it seems.

Your numbers may vary from the numbers I used so do your own math based on your conditions to get a number accurate for you.

I have no reason to doubt those who say that once installed, their gas mileage improved. I'm just trying to wrap my head around how this helped gas mileage.

In theory....

Throttle is being opened quicker with the booster in place than stock. This means less mashing of the pedal to get the vehicle up to speed and it does so a little quicker. This will help with the gas mileage since you don't have to be in it as much or as long to get moving.

I'm still waiting to see if I get any improvement in mileage with mine. Haven't done much driving since the install but I'll be back to my regular commute of around 52 miles round trip starting tomorrow.

I would say it's because of the time lapse with "drive by wire" you are pushing the gas pedal further and further until the throttle plate actually catches up and starts opening to allow more air and gas into the engine and thus more RPMs you end up with it opening much further to gain the forward movement than it would if the throttle plate opened more in time with your foot pressing the gas pedal, the amount of time that throttle plate is opened further the more gas the engine consumes.

This especially applies even more when trying to get up to speed to merge into traffic or to pass another vehicle.

Except....

Mashing the pedal also opens the throttle more quickly. The only thing a SB does is fool your ECU into thinking that you're mashing the pedal, harder than you actually are - every time you accelerate. So you could try this yourself and see how much of an MPG increase you get by just mashing the pedal everywhere you go.

Moderate acceleration is generally accepted to yield the best MPG. So if you're a really slow driver and you put in a SB you might see a small increase. I find it very hard to believe that many people on an enthusiast forum, not generally known for hypermiling, are seeing 2MPG, AKA 10%, from matting the pedal everywhere they go though.

My disbelief isn't helped by posts like this

Been following this post in envy for a while. I don't have the premium headers, just the regular thorley version which I'm not going to replace. This dude has helped me so many times with my truck and I've usually called him on weekends late at night and he answers. The original versions of these would have never come out to begin with if it wasn't for him. I was one of the first few that ordered my original ones I think 3 years ago and remember talking with doug thorley on a conference call with Burt. No one wanted to believe there was a need for these and he kept pushing. Companies look at large production numbers of vehicles and the 4Runner is not one of them. Kudos to non stop determination that got me 3 more MPG and saving me a sh!t ton of money not having to re-grear my truck. I thank you Mr Jason.

Headers and a SB yielding a 25% increase in MPG over stock, all, coincidentally, from products sold by Burtman. Hmmm...

If it was that easy, don't you think Toyota would've done it already to take less of a hit on their EPA fleet rating?

Note I said in theory. I'm also not claiming to see an increase in mpg. Time will tell, I know what I was getting before.

I will say that drive ability is improved in that I don't have to mash the throttle to get moving as I did before the booster install. I can adjust the booster to give much better throttle response by barely touching the pedal. The claims there are not fictitious in any way. Nor does Burtman or the product claim that it will increase mpg, that's only what others have provided for feedback.

Believe me when I say I'm not some fan boy that is going to give false feedback for ANY product. The feedback I give will always be honest and straight forward.

Received mine today. Install is pretty easy except for the cramped working quarters under the dash. So far I'm impressed with the booster, it most definitely makes the throttle more responsive. I would advise against going crazy with it to start as you will likely end up getting in an accident if you aren't ready for it. Start at low numbers and work your way higher as you get used to the change in throttle response. I just filled my tank so I'll see if there's any change in the gas mileage. Even if there isn't, I'm happy having a throttle that actually does what I want now!

Yep, the thing is awesome. Check the tank after a few fills, because when playing with it you'll be flooring it more testing it out so first tank may be lower but you'll see the spike later. My other customer Losoya that posted above called me and told me he went from 14 mpg to 16 mpg and I told him he had to come here and post that, which he did above but forgot to put his before. It was 14 before he installed it.

It's a win/win. Here's why. I'm the ONLY ONE that offers a 5 year warranty on it, ship it UPS 2nd day and money back guarantee if you don't say "holy crap" after you install it, no restocking fee. That's what I have to do to end the skepticalness and you'll see what I mean after install.

Also, the added gas mileage isn't the reason I sell these. It's made to make the throttle much faster and gets rid of all the lag, but the gas mileage gain is the added bonus while fixing the other issues.

Wasn't calling you out in particular, just explaining the contradiction when you say that a Sprint Booster might lead to better gas mileage because you don't have to mash the pedal, when in reality, you're mashing the pedal either way - you just shortened the effective travel between IDL and WOT.

Cloud9 is not just a fanboy, it's a sockpuppet account. Cloud9 is Jason Burtman. Anybody else remember this thread - https://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-...eware-doug-thorley-headers-3.html#post3303909

Many people thought it was pretty strange that the guy responsible for selling these headers wasn't chiming in. But here was this new guy who was ALLLL over the thread, about how terrible OEM was and how great the Thorley headers were, and how great Jason B was in particular. And now this, so I had to check his stats.

Look at the post history, literally 75+%, if not 90% are posts about Jason B's products (wheel spacers, headers, S&B intake, Sprint Booster, etc), posts right after Jason B does, or posts about competitors products and how they suck compared to Burtman's. Even PIAA wiper blades - Cloud9 posts about them, someone responds saying they didn't know they even made them and - what do ya know - along comes Jason Burtman with a link to buy them on his site! Say nothing of the identical grammatical quirks, and overly enthusiastic manner of speaking.

So either way, the multi-level marketing "some people have said this will make you omnipotent!" doesn't fly in my book unless it actually makes me omnipotent, and when it's his alt account making the claims, it really doesn't fly. Beyond shady.

I'm now getting almost 2 more MPG with this thing!

:thumb3:

I'm happy to hear it. I've had quite a few tell me they've seen better mileage with this on. I don't list this as one of the features, but it seems it might be one.

I don't list this as one of the features, except when I do...

If all Toyota had to do to get a 14.2% increase in MPG is make the accelerator position sensor more sensitive, they would've done it. They're a giant, multinational corporation designing and creating complex machinery and electronics. Sprint Booster is something I could solder up in my basement.

I'm sure one of your other sockpuppets will be along shortly to do the dirty work for you, but I've got a long week ahead and no time for even my one real account, so have at it.

2005 4RNR V8 MPG increase

I have been driving my 05 4RNR for 2 yrs. Started with an avg MPG of 14mpg city 13mpg towing 3,000 lbs trailer. NOW update to Sprint Booster V3. I have a 2in lift large Hankook Dynopro ATM, Spare tire on roof rack, with Bola roof rack. I have an increase of 2/3mpg on city steady hitting 15.6. Hwy towing 14.5mpg. Overall if you are on the fence, pull the triger get with Jason at burtmanindustries and You will be VERY glad, satisfied and confident you made an improvement on you overall MPG but most of all you have a quick responsive 4runner under the hood.

I just posted this in the 5th gen section, but I was in this section for quite some time and thought it would be worth posting here as well:

Just installed this today. Of all the crazy shit we put on our trucks - lifts, wheels, tires, lights, etc - this thing is the most practical enhancement for everyday driving I can think of. I've strongly disliked the throttle programming on my '20 for the month that I've owned it, but now it feels like my '08 on the sport 7 setting. I really, really enjoy driving my truck now.

In any case, if you're on the fence give it a try. For something that gives this kind of improvement every time you drive, it's worth a try.

I'm calling bullshit on the increased mileage gains.

I'm getting the same mileage now as I did before the install, which is what I honestly expected. Maybe there is an increase because of the headers for some folks but the booster on it's own does not and will not increase gas mileage. Period.

Drive ability is much improved due the the better throttle response but that's the extent of it. The booster doesn't increase the performance or power of the vehicle in any way, it only changes the throttle response time.

Do I recommend it? Sure, if you are looking for better pedal response when you drive, it does as advertised there and has some nice features like the valet mode and the tweak-ability. Plus it's very small so it's easy to place in an out of the way spot and it doesn't look bad eaither.

Well, I ordered on Friday and got it on Tuesday (Monday was a holiday).

Esp nice since they took it to the post office to send USPS to my PO Box after I told them delivery to my street address wouldn't work out.

Quick communication and quick service. Thanks, Jason. :thanks:

Haven't installed yet (I'm OLD.)

Here's a pic with a AA Eneloop battery for size comparison only (it doesn't need a battery).

Glad to help make it happen for ya and thanks for the feedback. Thanks for the photo as many aren't sure the size of the controller, which is very small. Now, most don't know, but you have a choice of what to do with the controller. You don't have to leave it hooked up if you don't want to. You can set it and then unplug that controller like an aux cable for those that want a complete stealth install. I find that most end up liking it when they see it in person and want to display it, and it looks cool at night.

Many that get these trucks think this is a problem they can't fix. Or they just assume that's the way it is and it's just sluggish with the throttle response, etc. The best part is, it works and makes it feel like it should have come from the factory. All this is doing is making the truck feel like older cars used to be. Any car made before 2003 had a metal cable going from the gas pedal to the throttle body. You hit the pedal and you had instant throttle response.

Here's where one customer put his contoller (again, it comes with velcro and you can put it anywhere you want, or under the dash, etc, or again, you don't even have to hook it up at all, set it and forget if you want.

Just order the Sprint Booster

New to the forum but I have to weight in on the sprint booster. I talked with Jason B on the phone @ length about the product and then decided to give it a try for my 2005 Lexus GX470 recently purchased. It has 305/65R17 Mickey Thompson ATZP3 hybrid tires (highly recommend) with steel off road front and rear bumpers. The rear bumper has the spare tire and extra gas can. With the addition of the tires and suspension along with the bumpers, the throttle by wire lag was extremely noticeable. I didn’t like the throttle response lag. Bought and installed the sprint booster for my GX470 and went straight to red 9. All I can say is WOW!!! This is exactly how I wanted my V8 to accelerate. It is exactly what I had in my mind and the shifting is almost instant now as well. Time will tell about the MPG but I don’t even care. They would have to pry the sprint booster out of my cold dead hands to get it back now. That is my .$02. Take it for what it is worth.

Sprint booster

Just received the sprint booster and installed it last night...I can definitely feel the improved throttle response with it installed.

How can I tell if this is already installed? I have 2 of the same 4runners. One is super snappy on the accelerator and the others is pretty laggy. Enough so that even my wife mentioned that one feels quicker than the other.

I poked my head under the dash and all looked factory. Does this plug into the gas pedal wiring harness?
