Sprint Booster

Just wanted to provide an update. I received the booster last Thursday, and installed it Thursday night. Drove it to work on Friday morning, and YES there is a difference in throttle response, BUT switching it back and forth to on and off I could not tell a HUGE 269 dollar improvement. Took the truck on a 1 hour trip on Saturday and wasn't thoroughly impressed. Ended up pulling it out on Saturday when I got home, and instead of sending it back in for a refund, posted it on a 4runner page on Facebook and sold it within 5 minutes of the posting.

My thoughts, for 260+ dollars spent on it, it isn't worth it. If you have a crap ton of money that you don't know what to do with, and want to waste it on dumb crap, this might be for you. Personally, I'd take the money and put it towards another firearm.

Just my 2 cents on it. I'm sure the rest of the people on here love theirs.

Sprint booster

All you folks that bought and installed a Sprint Booster, are you still loving it?

I'm considering getting one for my 2018 TORP, and poking around the old threads on the forum for opinions.
In my research I found this old technical white paper (Sprint Booster A technical white paper by Dick Bipes September 2007)
evaluating the function and performance of the unit. It's from 2007 but it still seems valid, even though the design has been tweaked over the years.

Here's the paper's conclusion:
"The Sprint Booster is a simple amplifier that multiplies the accelerator pedal sensor signal, making the accelerator pedal more sensitive. It does not eliminate any significant delay in throttle response, nor does it greatly improve acceleration figures. It does not change the adaptive throttle control programming of electronic throttle control vehicles. It does change pedal “feel”. This change in feel is interpreted by some as improved throttle response, acceleration, and a change in adaptive throttle control programming. Considering what it actually does, it is expensive. '

I've had mine for over a year now... and I'll just say that if mine broke, I would replace it.

Driving is all about the "feel".

I find it worth it.
 
1) I found the Sprint Booster to have a profound effect on throttle response. I set mine to Race 4 and disconnected the controller. This setting seems like a nice balance of (relatively) sharp responsiveness without always dipping the transmission. The throttle is actually reasonably responsive.

2) Most importantly the unit defeats the automatic throttle kill/traction control engagement if you press the brake and throttle at the same time. If the only thing this unit did was enable throttle-brake overlap, I would have bought it. The ability to balance weight transfer in tricky conditions particularly in a 5000 pound high-rider is critical. Unexpectedly dumping all that weight to a front outside corner in the rain just because you lightly dabbed the brake can be deadly. Before installing the unit I've had the truck step out more than once (E-Rated BFG KO2s are pretty crappy in the wet).

While the Sprint Booster provides a function that should have been factory, I'll gladly take it for under $300, particularly because the install takes seconds with no mods and is easily reversible.
 
had no idea you could throttle+brake with this, I'm getting one just for that

i hate hate hate trying to get up hills and you've got your throttle input set with your left foot but there is an obstacle or something so you want just a little left foot brake so you don't bounce too hard on it and all of the sudden you lose all power and fail the hill climb
 
I’m just not sure how this device would allow brake and throttle when it’s only an amplifier. I figured this was controled by the ÉCU. I believe our vehicles allow brake then throttle but not throttle then brake.

A few weeks ago I had my suspension swapped out for the FJ TRD Bilstein kit and somehow, the shop accidentally turned off my Sprint Booster. I immediately noticed something was wrong. But I was so preoccupied of thinking of how great the new suspension was, it didn't hit me that the vehicle was so sluggish. I drove around and noticed I had to press much harder to accelerate to the pace I normally drive. Finally, it dawned on me that maybe something was wrong with my Sprint Booster. So I looked at the LED light and noticed it was off (it was tucked away) and sure enough, turned it back on and all is well again.

So yes, absolutely love and NEED this thing.

I've sold a slew of these for the Honda Ridgeline because that truck has some natural hesitation and people loved them. These don't give more hp, which many think that's what it does. It makes the vehicle feel more like there's a direct link, a cable link from the pedal to the throttle body, which most of these drive by wire setups still aren't instant like an old school cable would be. Gives a more instant feel when merging from an exit onto the highway, more instant response when mashing the throttle, and quick pass bys where you may need to get out the way quick, it's just all around more instant.

Serious question.

Has anyone logged before and after sprint booster runs?

Wondering if the more aggressive tip-in on throttle could have any impact on transient knock, and/or negatively affect longterm engine and transmission reliability.

If not, I may have to pick one of these up soon!
 
Think I need to get one of these.
My wife's Jeep feels like a rocket compared to the 4Runner, and they are nearly the same horsepower.
The Toy just feels lazy.
 
I accidentally bought 2 and got too lazy to return 1 in the allowed timeframe, so I have one for sale. 265 shipped...anyone interested? Btw, would never go back to stock after installing this. It's the mini v3.
