Sprint Booster

The Sprint Booster folks should have a slogan saying - "Just Shut Up and Get One, You Can Thank Us Later"

Hey Jason, what is the difference in the version 3 vs the version 2 I bought last month?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Adds a true 30hp and 250 torque. Has HD screen with gorilla glass and I'm really kidding and have no clue. Sorry couldn't help it:shrug:

Has anyone had issues with dealer visits and leaving this in? Any warranty service denials?

You need to read earlier in the thread. This was already discussed at length and the answer is none reported here but the paranoia about it was addressed with speculation that the dealer probably wouldn't care, however could find out it had been there if they really looked hard enough (even if you removed all physical traces of it before taking for service) and may at some stretch deny a repair if it could be proved a failure was possibly linked to the aftermarket device. This is in your warranty manual by the way. Most likely wouldn't ever come up but you use it at your own risk.

It was probably me that raised this issue earlier in the thread.

A motivated dealer can always find a mod to blame a failure on. Years ago, on the VW forum, we used to play "Six degrees of Kevin Bacon", connecting any mod to any failure. I think my favorite was the denial of a warranty claim on an electrical failure based on aftermarket tire valve stem caps.

If this were a VW (BMW or MB), then there would be no question that the dealer would blame all sorts of failures on the Sprint Booster - because I know that MB have blamed failures on the SB and VW and BMW dealers will blame any failure on any mod.

While every dealer and every situation is different, my question was more specific to SB and Toyota - has anyone (rightly or wrongly) had warranty issues with a Toyota dealer and a SB - either when still installed or removed?

Not sure how you got a version 2, that's older and doesn't have a controller. Maybe you got confused. If you got last month it's V3, they've been out for a while and it has a controller option with digital screen :)

Well, lol, as of today I've sold 108 units for 5th gen only! The best part is many are getting better gas mileage which I never said was the main benefit of this, but many say it helps with gas. The main think this does it makes your truck not feel like a pig anymore and goes when your foot goes and makes everything you do easier and also more fun.

Has anyone had issues with dealer visits and leaving this in? Any warranty service denials?

I've sold over 1,500 units total in the last 8 years of selling these. I've never once had any dealer issues, and now I'm selling these to Toyota dealers! I'm selling to 2 dealers in Texas right now and one in AZ. It's the same old story. Customer buys a new 5th gen and then comes back a few days later complaining to the dealer about the throttle lag and they aren't happy. The dealer is now ordering these from me to keep the customers happy! No joke. there have been quite a few that wanted to return the vehicle. It's either the husband or wife that hates the lag... So, if that tells you anything, this thing really fixes a need.

Burtman Industries Sprint Booster, you can send it back if you don't like it!

That's good to know, but the fact that you are selling them to dealers is meaningless.

Dealers will sell anything to make a profit. VW and Honda/Acura have admonitions in the owner's manual against using additives as they are unnecessary and my cause warranty issues, yet many dealers will try to upsell you on additives during a service - most even have the BG machines that will do everything from your fuel system to the laundry to your dishes.

The only upside is that if a dealer installs it, then they (not Toyota) are on the hook for damage that they, or another dealer, claims the SB did.

I don't want this to degenerate into a bigger "warranty and mods" thread, but the basic question still stands - has anyone with a Toyota had a warranty claim denied because of the presence of the SB?

Speaks volumes if you ask me. I have them on both my 4th and 5th gen. Never had any issues at my dealer and you can be sure if there were issues these forums would be lit with posts about it.

I'm now offering a 5 year warranty on this item. Been selling this now for almost 9 years and I started with the first gen 2006 Honda Ridgeline about 9 years ago. I've neverheard of any dealer issues with any customers after about a total of 1,000 sold for all the makes I've sold these for (not including 5th gens). This item has now become my best selling item. Gibson exhausts and the lifts kit we do were #1, and now this is. It's an amazing little device that still blows me away at the difference it makes.

To bad they don't make these for wife's, would be great to plug it in, lose the old hag and drive off with a new Philly!
The booster is like driving a new car, it puts the pep right where it needs to be, red 5 right outta the box, quick as a whip and although no more than 10 miles I can see how it could add mpg just by watching the gauges. Give me a few weeks and I'll followup with real mpg. My tank average has been 17.5
Thanks Jason

I bought Sprint Booster for my 2018 4runner because like many here I do not like the stock mushy pedal response when overtaking on freeway or in passing situations on those long stretches of single lane roads behind slow moving camper, etc.

I still have not spent much time exploring the effects in various conditions or playing around with various device settings but to be real, the settings are all ultra slight variations on the same theme. That theme is immediate full throttle response which will propel you quicker into those passing/overtaking situations but so far in my observation this immediate response benefit is at the cost of somewhat erratic over-revving in unintended circumstances and also erratic shifting of the automatic transmission which are present regardless of the booster settings unless disabled entirely of course.

Verdict after week 3.... If you want a more punchy throttle response to accelerate more quickly whether for passing or for whatever other reason and are willing to part with a few hundred $$$ then buy it like I did. It is minimal, super easy to install and well put together. However if you hope for the punch in combination with maintaining a finely tuned revving and shifting performance then you might not be happy. I will keep it regardless just for the passing responsiveness and drive with it off most the time except when approaching a passing situation in which case I would press the booster button to enable a stored green 9 and punch it to pass after which disabling it again.

Again this is just my experience and honest opinion.... I bought this after following this thread and others here seem to love it so won't discount their opinions. However they often report superb performance all around and even improved gas mileage (on theory you don't have to mash pedal as much) neither of which I experienced. These rave reviews are met with repeated reinforcement by a genuinely helpful vendor of the product who admittedly benefits from the sale of these on the forum. You may realize the performance and benefits these others speak of however I want to give a fair review of my own which is not to say the booster is bad... just that it is not THAT great in my experience.

Hope this helps some of you.

Cheers - JC

Thank you for writing an objective and informative post. I would consider purchasing the product, it's not that expensive and clearly simple to install. However, I really don't have much of a problem getting my TRD Pro to move. I just mash my foot down hard and it goes. I like fast cars too, I traded in a Corvette ZR-6 for my TRD Pro.

Happy to contribute. I don't want to take away from all the sunshine being spread here about the product but I know from experience when evaluating the potential spending of money that objective feedback is hard to find. the Vendor selling these on the thread is helpful and provides useful info but obviously is not unbiased as openly admits selling large quantities of this product and puts sales pitch in each reply. Many others here are gushing about it which is fine and few like me have given less glowing pragmatic feedback which is also fine. I just like to keep it balanced and real... If I felt there was anything to gush about with Sprint Booster then I certainly would (e.g. see my posts in OE Audio+ thread or @OldRed's modifications including the awesome accessory meter display.. all of which in my opinion are gush-worthy). My humble opinion is that Sprint Booster is just OK, not great and for the record my mileage actually decreased a smidge on the first two tanks with booster. Sorry again to be the contrary voice but respect and enjoyment to all which is what counts rights?

Cheers - JC

I think one of the sweetest parts of thing is you don't have to utilize the whole pedal anymore. Green +5 is a very low setting. I just tried it at Red 5+ and noticed a huge difference. The tip in is more aggressive and RPMS rise much more quickly.

If you are pressing the pedal at the same speed you were with the pedal stock it will be jerky and very aggressive. There is no need to press the gas down so hard since the throttle blade is now moving at a 1:1 ratio . The pedal and blade still have 100 % travel, it’s the speed it gets to the desired position that has changed. If you didn’t have 100% travel you would never be able to back up or drive safely.

Oh, my first two gas tanks were lower mpg as I was playing around with it and having fun but now I'm up 1 more mpg!

I get what you are saying, but I will have to respectfully disagree with your opinion on getting your runner to move.
If you watch the video that Jason has posted showing the test bench with the pedal and throttle body, you will see that there is a software delay between the gas pedal and the butterfly. No amount of pedal mashing will made the truck respond when you want it to. It is literally impossible. You need to throttle out of a dangerous situation? Tough luck.
With this device, and others like it, the delay is somehow eliminated creating a condition that more closely resembles a mechanical throttle cable between the pedal and throttle body. The throttle response is instant and immediate. The truck accelerates when you want it to and you can now feel the 275hp the vehicle was born with. It seems similar to "sport" modes on some enthusiast vehicles.
My biggest hangup going from my supercharged 3rd gen to the marshmallow 5th gen was the lackluster performance. Sure, it had 15-20 more horsepower and an extra gear, but it always felt slow unless you stomped the pedal and waited for it to build a head of steam. That is now a thing of the past since installing the sprint booster yesterday. I can actually feel that the truck has some low end torque now. I honestly didn't think it had any.
I could do without the extra throttle per given pedal input, so I need to spend time with the different modes, but the instant response is worth every penny.

I was under the impression that the Sprint Booster did NOT add any more throttle to what you input with the pedal. It just causes the throttle body to open more quickly. i.e. you push 1/2 throttle you get 1/2 throttle. Am I mistaken?

I was under the impression that it essentially concentrates the signal to the throttle body. e.g. if each green step concentrates the throttle response by 3% (I'm making up numbers here -just for the sake of having an example), that means pressing on the throttle at 1% throttle would yield a signal equivalent to 3% on green setting 1.

On green setting 7, the 1% throttle response is equivalent to 21% throttle. Again, the 3% increased signal per green step is just a number I made up for the sake of an example.

Google fu: The sprint booster site says pretty much the same thing (concentrates / amplifies... tomato tomato):

The Sprint Booster is a simple amplifier that multiplies the accelerator pedal sensor signal

This might help: https://www.crosslake.net/~dbipes/sprintbooster/SprintBooster.pdf

I saw some charts before I bought it (can't seem to find them now) that showed pedal position vs signal output and it basically remapped the curve to go to full throttle earlier with less pedal input.
That part I could care less about but the instantaneous reaction of the butterfly is the key to snappy throttle response.

HERE IS THE VIDEO I posted earlier that shows exactly how and why this works. Watch at least (or all of it) the first 3 min and it will all make sense.

I was skeptical about Sprint Booster and researched it and read loads of reviews and opinions pro and con for a long time. The high price is kind of the main deterrent. But I pulled the trigger and bought one. Now I would not be without it. If it fails within 6 years Jason will replace it.
As is Jason’s motto: “ you can send it back if you don’t like it!”
You have absolutely no risk to try it for 30 days.
Stop analyzing, start testing it for yourself. People spend a lot more money on 4R visual bling
