Quick question regarding this. Again since I'm new to all of this, some questions may come across as ignorant or obvious, so I apologize. I was just curious as to why some might think the running boards should be removed.
I'm having some work done to my 4runner this fall (hood repainted, grill replaced, back hatch repainted, new clear bra, bug deflector, new wheels and tires). I've never seen these spacers before and really like the look of them. I thought about getting them as well but would leave my running boards. My 4runner is natural white and my running boards have been painted to match.

I think most people remove the running boards because they're never used. I removed mine because everytime I got out of the runner I never used the running boards and it just would rub on my leg, most of the time rubbing dirt on my pants. Even my wife (who is 5' 4") didn't use them. I think if I go with a bigger lift down the road then I might put them back on, maybe.

Now with the 3" lift.....I need the boards due to having smaller children climing in and out. I agree with the pants getting dirty etc....but they are on for now and I did post some pic with them re-done with the DupliColor black rubber paint and they look BRAND new.

This is the final result after using my Bosch 18v and a wire wheel and small wire brush then the silver paint- afterwhich I installed the spidertrax.

Also what they look like thru the rim. The silver rim would look nice with the silver caliper- but thats my opinion :thumb3:

Yeah...I got the silver paint as well for my 4Runner for the calipers. I have several things to do:

1. Replace the parking brake shoes and hardware (I have them all)
2. Repaint the calipers
3. Replace the rotors (on order due to arrive tomorow)
4. Clean each of the wheel wells-repaint and do the DupliColor UnderCoating

So...I have this process I need to do in that order so once I have the wheels off....I can do each of these tasks vs. yanking the wheels on and off. I have to admit though, I LOVE my new impact wrench to take them on and off!!!

I agree, I don't sure mine either with the exception of washing the roof. They're more for looks.

I use mine so I don't wear out my leather on the one side of the seat and it helps my kids in and out of the car so Running boards stay
