Squeaking around 30-40mph, not brakes. Help??

My 2016 has around 30k miles. I have noticed a faint but distinct squeal when cruising around 35mph. It sounds like brake squeal from riding your brakes but it happens even with my foot on the gas. Seems to be mainly dependent on speed. It's pretty constant (not a brief rattle like something is lose when I go over a bump).

Any ideas what to check? I had my tires rotated in February and I had plenty of brake life left (8mm all around). It does not feel like a stuck caliper, and I think that would make noise at all speeds.

I'm still under my B2B warranty so I could take it in to a dealer but if there is something I could check I would like to get started. I don't think dealers like to deal with "something is making noise in a very particular situation" complaints.

I've had that happen a couple of times and it might be related to spraying the undercarriage with water. It happened to my '16 limited with. 15k miles after a through rinse of road salt and later with mud. Just a guess but only lasted for a few days after washing and hasn't returned.

I have a squek noise also, but then i search around and found out it was the fender engine cover next to the wheel well. Its like a rubber flap that covers the engine opening in the fender well. Let me try to find a pic. The clip gets loose and makes that squeky noise

I've been hearing this noise off and on for the past 2-3 weeks. I do not believe I have washed the truck at all in that time.

I actually did have this problem, I fixed it using some stainless steel bolts and neoprene washers. I do not believe this is the same sound, the sound I am hearing now is a constant squeal for maybe 10-20 seconds (sounds like brake squeal). The wheel well liner thing was more of a chirping noise and mainly happened going over a bump or something.

is there any change in the sound when you push the brakes?

In my case, it's unrelated to the brakes or wheel bearings. I think it's in the driveline between the transfer case and rear differential. It's a high pitched squeal, similar to turning metal on a lathe if you've ever experienced tool chatter.

@OP. I'd jack each wheel off the ground and spin it, to see if you hear it.

Your symptom is that of the brake squeakers.

OK, pretty sure that this is drivetrain and water related. I get the squealing after spraying a lot of water on the undercarriage and after driving through large puddles. The squeal happened a couple months ago after washing salt and mud off the underside. It came and went for about a week before stopping. Drove through a 6 inch puddle of water on a dirt road on Memorial Day at about 15 mph and the squeal is back. Like last time, I expect it to go away in a day or so. I've mentioned it to the dealer but next time I bring it in, Ill be sure to wash the underside again beforehand so I can reproduce it for them. There are reports on other forums about this issue also.

I'm going to take a wild guess, Vjack: your 2016 is part time 4WD' right? If noise goes away in 4WD then you got: Driver side differential needle bearing is your issue. Dealer will put new diff or new bearing under warranty.
