Just bought a 99 4-Runner SR5 with 47,000 miles. I only spent $6000 on it and it was a great deal. It is a 5-speed manuel transmission. Everytime I push in the clutch and let out it is squeaky. Anyone else ever had this problem and if so how do you fix it. Also the cruise control don't work. I had a mechanic test the switch for one of the shops I work at. He said turning the cruise on works and setting the cruise works. The failure is somewhere between the cancel cruise, brake, or clutch. I am wondering if this has something to do with the cruise switch. For the price and the mileage I saw these issues as minor. I also got a set of four new all terrain tires thrown in on the deal. It looks brand new and was bought new by the previous owner who babied it.

Your clutch bushing is probably shot. Throw some lubricant on the linkage and spring for the time being to quite it up a little but the real fix is this:

Also, try sneaking your foot under your clutch and brake pedal and pulling out and then try the cruise. I thought mine was broken when I first got my truck but it turned out the return spring on my clutch leaves a tiny bit of play in the pedal.

oh man, that's a good idea with the cruise. My '98 has a squeeky clutch (has always had it) and the cruise control works most of the time. But some times the cruise doesn't work, i'm going to check the clutch next time.

Also with the clutch on a cold morning when I first start up the engine the clutch wants to stay down and I have to stick my foot under it to get it to come back up. After that I have no problems. Could be tied to the clutch bushing also and or cruise control?:thanks:

Thanks for the info guys. I got my $2.00 bushing ordered and printed the instructions on replacing it. My mechanic is going to replace it as soon as it gets in. I also stuck my foot under the clutch and it moved about an 1/8th of an inch and tried setting my cruise and it work. I was as giddy as a school girl! Now that I got the mechanical junk out of the way I will be set to start the mods. I can't wait to make it tough!:guitar2:
