SR5 with JBL 10 speakers?

Just as the title states, I'm not sure if there is an SR5 with the 10 speaker JBL system. Thats one of my "must haves" or is it just sport and limited with the JBL systems?

We all have our likes I guess. I am not at all impressed with the JBK 10 speaker system. Just changed the HU to a Kenwood today. The amp and speakers will come out in about a year or so. I am in the process researching the value of 10 speakers in a car. Maybe if I sit in the middle of the back seat I can get the value, not sure.

I believe that the Premium JBL Audio with 10 speakers is only available on the Limited. I do not believe that it was an option with the Sport Edition package. At least according to my Canadian T4R brochures. May be different for U.S. models.

It was an option on all 3 models.The Limited came with a 6 disc as standard equipment.I have seen a few 07 and o8 SR5s with power seats and JBL.They are out there,a little rare though.Here is a link to the different years with a link to that years brochures. 4Runner

The rusted out '08 SR5 V8 I had for a week had it in it. Honestly, aside from just looking better in the dash because its flush, I couldn't tell any sound difference.

Before I bought my 2009 SR5 T4R with standard sound system, I owned a 2004 Toyota Highlander for 4 years with the OEM JBL system. I know it's a different model, but it was also a Toyota SUV, and I can tell you that the JBL in that Highlander sounded many many times better than the crap non-JBL system in my SR5.

I'm not extremely picky with sound systems -- just give me a halfway decent sound and I'm a happy camper. But as far as I'm concerned, the stock SR5 sound system doesn't even qualify as halfway decent. It's pretty bad.

Weird, not sure why the brochure would say that but during the search for my 04 3 years ago (and all the T4R's I've seen since) the only T4R's I've seen without the 10 speaker JBL are SR5's. My Sport, other Sports I've compared it to and the Limited's I've seen have all had JBL's in them. Just the SR5's haven't.

Just to give you a response. Yes, the JBL system was an option for both the SR5 and Sport, and i believe standard on the Limited. I have a 04 v8 4x4 Sport with the JBL and love it.

I think part of the problem with opinions is understanding its purpose. If you are the type of person that loves to throw serious woofers in the back in a cage, then probably any stock stereo is going to disappoint. I love the jbl, and with just a little tweaking it gives great sound.

That said. With the cost of aftermarket products being so dang low.. I wouldn't let a stereo be the stopping point. If you find a hella nice 4runner that is missing the jbl, go for it.

Almost 30 years ago Bose was the first company to partner with an automotive company to design a system around a specific car. Using microphone measuring within the actual vehicle they designed a system that was very very tuned to the cars interior. Room dimensions and materials have a huge impact to how a sound system will sound.

Companies like JBL and Infinity and even McIntosh joined in. Some of these sound systems are excellent. Far superior to what you can put together by just buying good components and putting them in.

Take a company like Bose...I'm NOT a fan of their home equipment. They make decent speakers for the low to mid fi systems that most of us can afford. But by designing a system to a specific vehicle they actually built a system that was far superior to most systems on the road no matter what the cost.

JBL did the same kind of thing...And JBL is a far more respected speaker company (at least in the professional world) then Bose is. I've heard a couple of the JBL systems and they do sound outstanding...My brother-in-law has one in his Explorer.

It's very difficult for the average joe to go to Crutchfield and put a system together from mismatched components to sound as good as some of these designed systems. You may pick a set of speakers that will SOUND excellent in a Nissan Pathfinder...but because of the different dimensions of the 4runner....those same speakers might not sound as good.

I have seen people put together excellent sound systems in their vehicles...MOST however just put in LOUD systems..not necessarily GOOD SOUND...but just LOUD SOUND. A TRUE sound system is to reproduce the music as the artist intended it to be heard. I've seen people put these HUGE 18" woofers in their truck and then play a song with those woofers blasting out thundering sound....GREAT..IT'S LOUD...but it doesn't sound good....JUST LOUD.

OEM stereos have come a long way from the 70's with just a AM radio and one speaker in the dash. Even my basic system in my SR5 is better then ANY OEM stereo made 30 years ago.
