SRS dash warning lamp

I have an '05 4runner with 45k on the clock. A few days ago, the SRS dash (airbag) warning lamp came on.....and won't go off. The truck is in excellent condition with no damage history. Manual says to take it to the dealer for service if the lamp stays on. Is there anything I should check or try before doing this? Any responses are appreciated!

Goat, are you good (meaning experienced) with tools and have a service manual written specifically for your truck available? If not to either question, I would recommend you take it to the dealer for a system diagnostic. There are a number of circuits in the SRS that can fail or give false readings if faulty wiring or bad relays are present, meaning your bags can be just fine, but the computer is sensing a failure elsewhere, which triggers the light. You are currently in HARDCODE, which means your bags will likely not function when necessary. Don't mess with a SRS unless you really know what you're doing. Bags, clock springs and control modules are VERY VERY expensive!
