I figured it was time to make a build thread to help me keep track of everything. Also I can reflect and look back at all the progress that has been made.

My previous car was a 2010 Mazdaspeed3 that had a myriad of things done to it. I owned it for 6 years and put 120,000 miles on it. It was starting to become a handful to drive on the daily and so I did what any smart person would do. I bought a 4runner. The goals for the 4runner is to make it comfortable for our roadtrips and tough enough to beat up without having to worry about it too much. I don't do much "overlanding" but I do like to go wheeling and camp every now and then.

In October 2016, I purchased a '16 TEP in Super Duper White

The rear hatch does hit the box but I just made a limiting strap to stop it from hitting.

Installed the trail standard offroad grill. Instead of wasting $200 on the upper grill portion I just cut it out and put the Apex Overland light bar to cover the grill. The lightbar mounts perfectly to two existing holes that weren't being used for anything.. Going to remove the garbage rago freedom lightbar on the bottom whenever I get my Addicted Offroad front bumper.

Installed my Shrockworks rear bumper:

I love the bumper overall. Install was pretty straight forward except for the sticknuts that Shrockworks loves to use. Luckily I already had experience with them from my sliders.

I'm not sure if it's because I picked it up locally so they didn't have to package everything but I was missing the bumper edge trim, license plate light (I think this comes with it), and some hardware for the tire carrier and jerry can holders. I also was shipped the wrong bolt pattern 5th wheel so all that will be going on later.

So far I like the bumper a lot, I'll have to start looking into re-doing my suspension for the added weight. I also have an addicted offroad front bumper coming in soon (hopefully... currently waiting 4 months for it). I'll probably re-do my whole suspension after that.



Also installed a weboost 4g-m cell booster that I was able to snag from one of our old work trucks.

I installed the unit in the passenger side footwell since my coworker said you'll need to be able to see the lights in case you need to restart the unit. I have it wired up to the SwitchPro so I can easily turn it off/on. I'm currently just using the standard magnetic mount antenna however eventually I will switch it to an omni antenna in the future. I haven't been able to get out of the city to test it yet but once I do, I will chime in on how well (if) it works.

Scooped up a baja rack locally for $500. It came with the baja ladder but sold it for $250 so ended up paying $250 for just the rack.

Also installed some KC hilites cyclones for some rock lights. Bought the lights by themselves and made my own harness and brackets. I utilized the already threaded holes in the frame. I also wired them to come on with my courtesy lights via the switchpro 9100 trigger functionality.

Also installed some baja designs s2s on the Baja rack

and some s2s into the rear bumper slots on my shrockworks.

Nice work...i keep eyeballing those s2's. i could use them on literally everything...roof rack, backup lights for the f250, scene lights for the camping trailer.

They're only the sports but they're still really bright. The lights are so compact in size, which is awesome. I will probably add a set to the sides of the bajarack.

Relocate rear view camera on shrockworks rear bumper

Over the weekend, I finally got a chance to do something that I've been wanting to do for awhile. I relocated the rear view camera onto the swing arm of my shrockworks rear bumper. I've been putting it off because I've been trying to find the OEM connectors so that I could make my own harness instead of cutting my old one up. Most relocate kits just give you the wiring and a generic 4 prong connector. The RSG one comes with the connectors, however the price is insane IMO.

This is for the connector going into the camera. The connector comes with pins for you to pin it yourself.

This goes into the harness in the hatch. This one comes prewired that you'll need to splice. There will be two extra wires that you dont need which you can cut off or tape off.

What I used:

- 12+ ft of wires. The oem wires are brown, white, black, red; incase you want to keep the wire colors the same.
- Some wire loom to protect the exposed wires that route outside the vehicle
- Heat shrink
- Wire connectors
- Basic wiring tools (crimper, wire stripper etc)
- Long wire tool to feed the wires (I used an old dipstick which worked surprisingly well)
- A camera mount plate sold by the beloved pelfreybilt (no longer sold anymore for obvious reasons)
- Dielectric Grease
