In one of my previous posts I was curious of the possibility of making close to 300whp with a trd supercharger and supporting mods. In most of the responses people referred to getting a standalone ECU to better tune the supercharger to make the most power. I was curious what the best possible supporting mods would be for the trd supercharger, If the 7th injector is not the best option would it be better with supra injectors and which standalone ecu would I buy?

If you re good with diagrams you can run many different standalones. Ex: megasquirt . Its very user friendly and theres huge support behind it. I run it in my boosted miata and it runs just as good as stock (tuned by myself).you can get your hands on a unit for under 300$ or you can build your own board. I know a guy that bought a kia sportage as a winter beater then installed a megasquirt in it with a turbo and its decently quick now! Just to show you that you can installed them in any car.

megasquirt is a good one. it depends on the features you want that will determine the cost as there are several versions in production.

What megasquirt should i buy if im planning on doing an lc engineering cam install kit with stronger springs, running 13psi and lexus or supra injectors. Possibly be doing some minor port work on the head or atlest new valves, Just would like close to 300whp with out making all the power at the upper rpm range
 
Is there a reason for the target of 300whp?

The closest I have seen is a fellow on Yotatech... He's running an AEM standalone, and a bunch of other stuff. More than I can afford, that's for sure. I want to say he was in the 290s.

I have a greddy emanage sitting around that I wonder would work with our cars but not sure if its compadible with the maf. Megasquirt is awesome, very user friendly great support and just plain works. If my emanage wont wire in I'm going that route. I have pretty much same plans as you for the motor but not trying to hit a cetain whp. To get the most out of the motor you would want to go with a turbo, larger fuel setup and e85.
 
your probably going to need a meth kit along with the 7th or the supra injectors or a combo of all three... then your gonna want headers along with that. -obviously an aftermarket intake of some sort. but along with all that, dont forget to put in a larger fuel pump, as the stock one will not keep up. waldpro (i think thats how you say/spell it) make some good ones
 
I'll play the devils advocate... Why do you need 300 whp? This is just my opinion.


Your not going to use 300 whp on a trail. Maybe once!

Your not going to blast up a mountain face in a 4runner.

Your not going to drive near redline on any trail (unless your in a race, but then you'll get your ass handed to you by some buggy)

The 4runner is a brick aerodynamically. So going fast on a drag strip will put you out of league verses of 300 whp vehicles.

All that 300 whp will do for you is break :toilet3: and lose your reliability.


Now, if your going to make deliveries south of the border and need to outrun the federalies then more power to you.:car:

That would be walboro, I have a couple 190lph and 255lph hp sitting in my garage right now, also have a denso supra pump pushes around 260lph. He would be better off running e85 than running meth injection. I ran meth injection and its just PITA. Getting the correct mixture and refilling sucked, I would just run windshield wiper fluid.
 
As someone who just bought his runner and is coming from M3's, Supras, and tons of other extremely fast cars, I understand as its a little sluggish. That being said, that's why I bought it.

I have been modding various cars for over 20 years and for the loot you are looking to dump into the engine with a cam, stand-alone ecu and so fourth, you would save money on swapping the engine and trans out. Not sure why ya need it, but once you look into replacing the internal engine components, ecu, then you need to upgrade the suspension, brakes, trans, axles and other components as well...

I was the same way, but came from Eclipses, Talons, Galants, Evos, you know the good cars, j/k, lol. Anyways I agree with you. It will get expensive to try and make that amount of power out of one of these. But with the SC, larger pully, larger injectors and standalone he could make good power without costing too much.
 
yeah, definitely, but do you think he needs to go to a standalone system with just those mods? I have only gone to a stand-alone system when I was going for real big power and no piggyback system or program would work. I am rusty on my Toyota knowledge for mapping though, especially on our cars so I am not sure what is available, but I would think stand-alone would be over the top?

Isn't the freedom to make horsepower in your constitution somewhere? Who cares why he wants to do it.... You didn't need to put a V8 in your 4runner but you still did.

Thats the problem, there are no good piggy back systems. Im going to try emanage blue and see what happens, but without good piggy back system support the next best thing is something like megasquirt which is not to expensive with a little research.

IMO I only like standalones or at least a way to flash the ecu directly through eprom emulation. Full cell fuel and timing control is the only way to get what you want done. Also its a lot more fun to tune!!

Just being the devil's advocate. And I needed to put a V8 into my runner. My life depended on it and so did my dog too.

Fwiw - the V8 is great in the 4runner. It makes a lot of power at the low end of the rpm range. Great power from taking off. No surge, no lag, just smooth linear power. Let me brag some more. I get a smile everytime i take of from a stop light. I don't have to push the gas pedal hard, i just step the skinny pedal normally and I book. Usually out in front if it is a 4 lane highway. Now if pesky cager is aggressive on the gas, and i hear it, i'll step on the gas even more, it drops down a gear and it really takes off. Just to brag a little more, I can do this with 100% reliability of a stock Toyota motor and on regular unleaded gas.:boxing:

Not to mention you probably get better gas mileage than the 3.4l with the SC. My buddy has the newer fj with a SC and it gets like 12-14mpg max. He hates it. I really want too do the v8 swap like you did, just a lot of work. I may SC, or I may try the v8 swap. Or I may just stay with the stock power thats good enough and build up My Evolution Lancer I will be getting soon.
 
I'm also shooting for 300whp in my s/c'd cam'd, 3.4 S/C.
It's a # only 1 (TRDOLMAN) other 3.4 s/c (without nitrous) has hit... I want to be the second...
 
I love that turbo setup. In my day and age that was called a turbo kit. Front mount kits puts the turbo in the bumper where say the FMIC is installed.
