stank exhaust smell ...

My 4runner stinks...literally. Anyone else's? The exhaust smell is literally like a rotten egg, especially within minutes of cranking it and under moderate to heavy acceleration no matter how long after cranking. I literally cannot have my rear window down and hit the pedal hard - it will make everyone in the car look at each other with the "who did it" look. What's the deal - anyone know? Is it just my truck, or should I just lay off the bean dip...

Other than that, this is the best car/truck I've ever owned. For the record, 2005 limited 2wd (hence the South Carolina terrain or lack thereof).

Got the same problem.. they are all right it seems it is just the way Toyota designed the cat conv.

I kinda like the fart smell ..

Sounds like the sulfur/rotten egg smell.

Mine is OK in the summer but bad in the winter... must be the winter gas formula.

Has anyone who's had the TSBdone had the smell come back after a period of time?

I don't have any smell issues on my 2004 V6. Maybe I got revised cats...

ya know... maybe I don't either(04 v6 sr5). I was gunning it on the freeway and around town today, and I'm pretty sure I suffered some brain damage from intentionally inhaling noxious fumes. But, I definitely smelled car exhaust... and it didn't smell great even 'sulferish', but it definitely wasn't "fart", or "rotten eggs". I was going to get the TSB done...but for now, I think I'll keep my Runner the way she is. There have been a few times where I did smell this horrible smell but after today when I was driving overly aggressive and just got normal fumes...I'd hate to get it done, only to smell ass all the time.

I've had the TSB done a few years ago. The TSB greatly reduced the smell, but it's always been there. It only appears when I accelerate quickly and then come to a stop, then it creeps into the cabin like a fart.

If you want to wait, the TSB is good for like 80k/96 months or something like that. You could wait near the end and get it done and have fresh CATs...
