Start problem

I have a 2002 sr5 4x4 v6 automatic. For some reason the other day this started. I get in my truck to go somewhere after it has Sat for a little over an hour since the last drive and I turn the key on And turn and hold it in the cranking position, It does nothing for about 30 seconds then it cranks right over and The crank isn't week it's strong. Its like there is a 30 second delay between me turning the key and the power getting to the starter. If I go out to start it with in the hour the delay is not there tho It cranks as soon as I turn the key. Anyone have any idea's
I am a mechanic and I've never ran into this issue with anything. And it doesn't feel like a dragging starer

Hmm...we had a 90 's model Tacoma come thru the shop a few years ago that did that..turned out to be the ignition switch itself.

Did you check voltages at any point?

Have you tested anything?

Does the vehicle have an aftermarket alarm?

I could solve this in 15 minutes if the truck was in front of me and I had someone to hold the key for 30 seconds.

Haven't dug into it that far yet. But it does not have an aftermarket alarm and I have tested the batterie so that counts that out

So you've never run in to something like this, but you are thinking it's your ignition switch. Even though you haven't checked anything!

I haven't checked anything yet because I haven't had the time to so I figured I would just throw it out on the forum to see if anyone has had this problem be for. Isn't that what a forum is for.

Exactly. I assumed being a mechanic you were going to check it out. And yes that's what the forum is about. .saves a lot of time checking things if someone else has had the same problem...gives you a place to start even if it isn't the problem you are having. I think some people get a bit excited about things a bit quickly on here..

Just an update for anyone who cares. I finally licked the problem. After my last excursion in the lovely florida so called "mud" it seems a little mud and dirt got in the starter. I cleaned it b out with a hose and then sprayed in,the brushes and connections with some crc electrical cleaner
