That Dorman rebuild kit you linked to is for 1.4kw starter. You might want to be sure all your parts are compatible if you used the same stuff I bought since the part number I linked to is for a 1.8kw starter.

Just ordered this kit today, hoping it's the fix for my intermittent no-start that popped up yesterday.

How about an update? It's been 7 months surely you have it installed by now. I'm asking cause I got the click today. I'll call the dealer tomorrow and get quotes for OEM but that kit you linked is cheap and still available.

I'm super lazy dude. Once I bought the kit and received it in the mail — my starter never skipped a beat again. So now I just carry it in the storage cubby. I fully expect to have to pull the starter and replace the contacts/plunger in some dark parking lot one of these nights.
Thanks for reminding me though, I guess I should put that back on the 4Runner to-do list.

Yeah, I'm lazy too. So I'll order it then hope the same thing happens. I'll clean up the terminals and grounds tomorrow as well. Maybe. If I have to do it before you do I'll let you now how it goes. lol

Yes, manuals came with a 1.4kw starter unless they came with the cold weather package and then they got the 1.8kw starter. Automatics came with the 1.8kw starter. If you have a manual without the cold weather package, I don't see why you couldn't go to the 1.8kw starter.
Thanks! So how do you know if you have the cold weather package? VIN check? I'm in Canada and this was originally a Canadian truck.
