Hi mates,

over the weekend.. my runner started to have a little bit of issue of firing up... at first when I crank, it would go flat but after words.. the second time she will start right up..

my question is, is that the symptoms of an starter going out? cause prior to this, I was going to change the contacts out but the dealership kept ordering me the wrong part.. so I didn't change the contacts out..

maybe is time for an new starter?

thanks.

Sounds like what would happen to mine. You would turn the key and nothing, then turn again and it starts. Just replace the contacts.

would you have the part numbers for the contacts?

I went to the dealer and they kept giving me the wrong ones with the wrong angle..

sorry to revive an old thread..

but it started to happen again.. I though it was the battery but it wasn't.. cause I swapped out to an new one this morning but started is going flat..

could the starter be going out? it takes a few tries to get it going..

thanks.

I ended up replacing it 3 years ago with an reman Denso starter.. and now is going again...

I'm tempted to go to car quest to pick one up since it has lifetime warranty on it..

have you checked the starter relay... they are like $7 at an auto parts store...

i had the same symptoms you are describing, replaced contacts(mine were not that bad but...) problem was gone for a couple weeks, then it was back, so i replaced the main power wire to the starter, because it was showing some signs of corrosion, that didnt seam to do much. the problem just kept getting worse and worse, then i bought a relay to rule that out... bam fixed the issue. been doing fine ever sense.

I just swapped the starter relay from my father's Lexus and is still doing it..

looks like I be getting an new starter from ebay.. can't beat an reman Denso for $70...

thanks kid,

appreciates the help..

so you're replacing a re-manufactured denso starter that only lasted 3 years with another re-manufactured denso starter?

did you ever even look at the contacts/plunger?

All after market contacts wear out about 10 times faster than OEM toyota contacts.

Does your starter problem happens only in the morning (when it is cold)?
