Starting Difficulties

I have a 98 4runner and I recently have been having issue get it to start. At first, I thought that it was the usual stuff (bad battery or starter). Now after lots of frustration, it will only start if I turn the steering wheel to the right or left. Why would anything dealing with the steering wheel cause the truck not to start? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I've had that with other vehicks. Somehow there is pressure or something on the wheel. Moving the wheel eliminates the pressure and your good. Had me worried a few times but have always been able to release the wheel. Might be an anti-theft feature. Maybe try to keep the wheel straight when you park?
