Starting Issue

I have an issue when starting my 1994 3.0 TD T4R. When I turn the key to start it up, it makes a loud noise whilst starting. The noise sounds like the noise you'd get if your car is already runner and you try and turn it over again.
Is this a problem with the brush ring, contacts in the starter motor or something else????
Any advice would be very welcome.

Maybe an alignment issue with the starter and the flywheel, and the teeth aren't meshing correctly?
