starting new motor

If all goes well I should have it by this weekend, I hope..........On a different note, I got the transmission and transfer case installed in my 71 chevy pickup, with the help of my neighbor lady, she is in her 60's and I am 76 so it was a slow motion sort of thing. All I half to do now is hook up drive shafts hyd lines a few wires and its done, of course its raining now so it will be this weekend before I can finish it, laying in the mud is no fun.
 
Toyota on the road today, runs great, took it up to 80 for a few minuets, I have a vibration between 55 and 62. I think it is the tires, they sat for over 5 years, going to take a while to get them round again. Went to the tire shop and they dated the tires at 12 years, but no cracks or separations so I will put some miles on it before I buy new tires and rims. As far as I could see, everything works great, the heater will drive you out. It holds the road good, no drifting or wandering. As I said, I want to drive it for a while before putting anymore money in to it. I will try to get some photos in the morning and post them.....

My 98 had some vibrations when getting above 65 or so, so I just kept it below that. On my 92, the initial tires were worn down some and a little old (maybe 6 years). In the first year, after America's Tire company said they were ok (generally I've been happy with them), I lost a diagonal section of tread on I-5 while doing 70 or so. The tires held air, and I drove slowly to the next exit and changed the tire.

Just take it easy with older tires, especially with a bit of vibration. I see no problem going 50-60 with them, and not towing, as long as you have a good spare and don't mind changing it. If you drive on roads with no shoulders or in bad weather, I'd up the priority on changing them out. But an around-town car, there's not too much downside, even to a blow-out.

Congrats on getting it running. And here I'm just putting off doing the timing belt, while you're replacing a whole engine.
