Starting problem on 99 4runner

I have a 99 4Runner Limited 258K 3.4l Having a problem with her starting after driving. It just cranks and cranks. One to two hours later, she starts right up. Several months ago I had the MAF code come up. Cleaned the sensor and reset. She was fine for 3 to 4 weeks without any issues. Now I have this annoying starting issue. Any ideas?

Hate to say it, but sounds a lot like the common fuel pump issue these tend to have with high miles. There's a check valve inside the tank with the fuel pump that is supposed to hold pressure after the engine has been running and with high miles these notoriously drain back pressure way before they are designed to resulting in loss of fuel pressure and the excessive crank.

Mine was not this extreme, but once hot, like after hours of driving, the cranking time would go to about 5 seconds, substantially longer than normal. This is gone after replacing my MAF... I had even tried to clean it, not that it needed it, but other issues persisted until I changed it out. Amazon had OEM for $70

I suppose before shelling out the money for a fuel pump and going through the task of lugging a tank with fuel in it from the vehicle, I'd gamble with a junkyard MAF unit and see what results you get. The fuel pump really isn't that hard, but if you do it be prepared to get your tank nearly empty as it'll be a lot easier to handle then.
