Starting to dislike my spring and shock package

The rebound in all four of my Bilsteins is going away. Time to start saving for some rebuildables in the front and rear.
After some time and miles on my Bilstein 5100's, all four corners are losing their rebound valving.
Im running the Eibach 620lb front spring, which I like for my off roading.
Im running OME 895 20%heavier coils in the rear. When everything was new, this package worked pretty well. Now after some miles the rebound in the Bilsteins cant control the coils, front or rear. Dont get me wrong, my truck is awesome. I have always stated that for a low buck 100% bolt on kit, it did its job.
So my question to everyone out there is; Should I go with the nicer high end Fox Coilovers w/reserviors in the front and the single Fox w/reservior, or go with Kings?
Thanks in advance

Having run the Bilsteins, OME and later the Fox's. I would suggest going the Fox or King route.

The OME 895 rear springs are about 40% stiffer than OEM. When i first purchased the Fox rear shocks w/ resi's they were slightly under valved. I sent them to Fox for re-valving and addition of 8-way adjuster. My suggestion is Fox or King w/ Resi's.

For the front i would suggest the Fox 2.5 or King 2.5 w/ Resi's and dampening adjustment. The 650# front spring rate worked quite well with the V6 & ARB Bumper/winch. Some might prefer the 700# springs on the front, but either option will work. If you have the V8, maybe go 700# if you are adding bumper/winch. Otherwise stick with 650#.

That is my 2 cents from a person whom no longer owns a 4Runner.

when you say the rebound cannot control the coils what do you mean? what characteristics do you have that make you think that? i may be experiencing similar issues and want to diagnose it

Uncontrolled rebound damping would be felt as the shocks topping out as the suspension uncompresses from bumps.

Where have I been? when did you sell? and why? .... or will I get the "SEARCH" you Mother &**&*& type of answer lol

I'd also consider Radflo when you're shopping at that level. Usually between those 3, it comes down to valving. I've been extremely impressed by the Overland Warehouse valving on the Radflos. Lots of guys on toyota120 run them.

Or ever made a build thread! Sorry had to say it, I'll stop now.
I know.. I never did a build thread. There are still pictures of my truck floating around.

It's been about 6 weeks. Life has changed over the last 6 months or so and off road time just wasn't going to happen anymore. My current location just doesnt lend itself to trail time. Trips now consist of bringing our travel trailer. Versus the tent & sleeping bags. Wanted a tad more luxury and lower entry height for the family. I have gone thru some 4Runner withdrawal; But I am really enjoying the new vehicle.

Whats the new wheels (curious)?

My 3rd gen was a bit too high for my pregnant wife at the time. So I did not really lift the 4th gen.. So that means the side steps stay..

Sorry OP Dont mean to get off track..

I dont have much to add, except I had billsteins in my 3rd gen.. IMO not the greatest riding.. It was just a bit too harsh.. and the bumps did not settle at fast speeds. It was worse when I sat in the back.

Alot of people like then, but I think its a "good" entry level setup.

I wonder if there is a 3'' lift setup that rides as good as my stock xreas.

I agree on the Bilsteins. They are a great replacement for factory but I also would like to improve on them as well. Have heard nothing but good things about the radflos and probably going that route next time.

2014 VW Touareg, it has plenty of power & 8-speed super smooth tranny Very different than the 4Runner, but I came from the Audi world so it feels like I am back at home. Only problem I have is, any upgrades I want to buy all come from the Porsche Cayenne parts bin. Once you add that name parts prices go up quick.

I hear ya... I had a a4 turbo back them.. I lost a ton of money in it.. I loved the way german vehicles drive.. But there were too many misc, issues I cant stand. Then the sunroof decided to open itself without me touching anything.. I threw in the towel... Almost the same reason I got rid of my x5.

One of the things I like about having a older toyota or any vehicle is, I can park anywhere and not be so anal about scratches and dings. I hated worrying about people damaging the x5 and audi since it was soo clean..

This set-up has worked very well for me for about 200,000 miles now.

Looks like the 4Runner should look raised 3"

Works well for me off-road and really great on the highway.

When the coil-over shocks needed to be rebuilt, I purchased one additional shock. Then, it was easy to send one in at a time to be rebuilt at Icon, and not lose the use of the 4Runner.

The lesson I have learned a few times is that it is better to do it right the first time, as value priced options often cost a lot more in the long run.

AWESOME!!! Congratulations, Ive always been a fan of the Touareg/Cayenne. Especially for their size and comfortability factor. Yeah, Audi/VW finally did well with their 8sp. definitely keeps you in the powerband when you need it.. I, like you have been in the Audi game forever and a day(Still am, as you can see from my garage pics).. The Touareg still comes with the Air Ride suspension correct?
