Static?

hey, I was wondering if anyone else had this problem?I have a 2005 4Runner Sport Edition with the fabric seats... Ok, everytime I get out of my 4runner i and touch the door to shut it i get a shock?


Is it just me or does this happen to anyone else?

Happens to me just about everytime unless it is raining or very humid out. Drives me nuts! Not sure what to do to avoid this problem. Just remember to discharge that static before pumping gas.

Happens to me too in my SR5. I think there is some anti-static spray out there somewhere...

LOL, thanx for that tip. Ya, it discharges everytime i touch the door to shut it..But its good to hear that i'm not the only person this happens to me.

I think im gonna go try to buy that "Static Guard" thing and spray it on.

I just put my hand on the metal part of the door as I am getting out of the runner. that way I ground my self out without getting shocked... try it.. it works!

It happens to me too. I find I get shocked the most after driving with the heat on. Since it has gotten a bit warmer out and I haven't been using the heat, I haven't been getting shocked as much. I try not to close the door by touching the black part because that gives you really big shocks.

Try this

Get a new sheet of dryer fabric softener, such as "Bounce". Just rub it all over the seat. I have leather in my truck and haven't had a shock yet, but when I owned a sedan with a cloth interior, I found this idea on the interent and tried it. It worked.

Also, after using the bounce sheet in the dryer, you can rub it on the clear portions of the radio display and instrument cluster, it really helps delay the dust on those surfaces. It has anti-static properties.

Also, try drying your jacket/coat with a anti-static sheet next time after washing. It's usually whatever you happen to be wearing that is the main contributing factor to the static buidlup when sliding out of the seat.

Looks like everybody posting gets shocked...so Iam the odd man out, I don't get a shock and so far never have but I will pay more attention. Have a 2005 sport with cloth seats. Maybe it has to do with the area of the country and season.

It has a lot to do with humidity.

I too get shocked. I notice it more when in winter with the windows up and the heat on. Also notice it when I have my wool coat on too. When just in shorts and a T, I don't notice it very much. However, it drives me so nutty that I usually slap the door one or twice (the plastic part/lightly). I know I look like a retard to other people in the Kroger lot but what the heck.

happens to me as well. i thought by closing the door using the black plastic part of the door (outside) would help, but not as much as i thought. and like everyone else, this only occurs during the winter

I dread getting out of my truck sometimes too. To the point it really pisses me off especially when it starts to hurt!

LOL. I am a girl, and it fricken hurts like HELL. I am so scared sumtimes to get out of the car. It's not just in the winter for me, its all year round.

oh windy days make it worse. But, windy days, and having just waxed the car, that's just asking for it. LoL, it's windy outside and I'm in the middle of waxing the car :dammit:. I learned in physics class that aside from holding the metal part of the door before you get out of the car, you can get out and hold the metal part of your key nearest the base for a couple seconds, then touch it to the door and it'll spark at the tip of the key. Hold tight otherwise it'll still hurt.

It doesn't seem like the rear passengers get shocked. When my buddies are with me they all laugh when they get out. They don't even have to watch me because they hear "SNAP" "AAHH". Sometimes I dread getting out of it, or I look funny because I close it with my shirt.

it also depends on the person. i had a friend that set sparks at night. and i mean SPARKS. we wouldn't even have to look closely for it, but he's learned to live with it.
