Stealership ripped me off! What should I do next?

What's the time frame allowed to put a hold on a credit card transaction? The service was done about 2 weeks ago, but I found out about the plugs a few days ago. Can I still call my credit card company to freeze payment?

Thanx for all the advice people, but I have just one more... should I demand a full refund from the dealership and have my 4R serviced elsewhere or should I have them redo the service correctly and give me some sort of compensation for the trouble they put me through? If they agree to either option, should I still file a complaint or report this to Toyota? I just don't want other comsumers to be ripped off at BOB ROHRMAN'S OAKBROOK TOYOTA/SCION in WESTMONT, ILLINOIS. I feel that they should be punished or disciplined one way or another. I'd rather not have them touch her again. I can buy the plugs and replace them myself, but what about the diffs/transfer case fluids? Any write-ups or tips for doing it? I recall reading a few posts in the past saying that it was a PITA and that it stinks.

I believe you have 60 days, especially if you haven't paid the credit card bill yet.

30 K service

Hank, it's federal law you have 60 days to dispute a charge. I would go and have them do it right. Then you can complain or not. Toyota corporate is not going to do anything if it's right, but they may if you are not happy when it's done. I would then find another dealer or mechanic than can do the srevice it doesn't have to be toyota as long as you get the receipts and work orders for any warrenty work you need should the time arise. good luck. If you dont have the sense to change your oil and rotate your own tires you deserve to be charged 300 dollars for it

I think the point was that he was supposed to be getting a lot more done for $300 than an oil change and rotation.

I have to be honest, I think you should inform BBB about these practices regardless of the outcome. Any dealership which charges for work which it does not perform is at the least doing the vehicles an injustice, which Toyota should be concerned about and at worst commiting fraud, which the BBB should be concerned about. Out of interest are you a member of the American Automobile Association? Do they help members with this kind of thing and keep a track of such shady practices?

Wow, that is a pretty close-minded statement. You have no idea of other peoples circumstances. Not everyone wants, likes or has the skills, knowledge and confidence to work on their own car.

I work on my car myself because I do like doing it and really need to save money wherever I can but to each his own.

btw, I really dislike rotating tires. It is a pain in the butt without a lift and an impact gun.

If you don't have the sense to abide by my prior warning to abide by Rule Number 3 you deserve to be banned :)

That was really uncalled for. It says alot about your character.

BTW, I'm mechanically inclined and do my own oil changes, tire rotations, brake pad replacement, sparkplug replacement, etc. I've never replaced any fluids in the diffs/transfer case as the 4R is my 1st 4x4 vehicle. I would've done the 30k mile service myself if I had all my hand tools, power tools, and air tools w/compressor that I left at my parents' house back in CA when I moved to Chicago, IL about a month ago (staying here for 2years only). Besides, the association of the condo where I currently reside don't permit working on vehicles in the shared underground garage. I don't even have a place to wash/wax my friggin 4R like I usually do back home.

UPDATE: I have this thursday and friday off from work. I'll be taking my 4R back to the stealership on thurs. I'll let you guys/gals know how it goes. Wish me luck!

P.S.- I hope I don't lose my temper there :goinposta

Hank, good luck, don't lose your temper. Just go in state your case, if you haven't stopped the "charge" on your card do it in front of the manager, then call Toyota Corporate, the number is in your owners manuel. Corp will ask if you have given the dealorship a chance and you can tell them you are standing there as you speak. Good luck, CSM-H

Hank -

what the hell was the result???

I just read this thread and there is no ending! Like reading a novel and the dog chews it up the day before you plan to finish....

I GOTTA know!! :p

My bad, slipped my mind whether I posted a reply or not. Anyways, I brought my 4R back the following week and had them replace the sparkplugs and diff fluids. Bastards!!! I had them also refund me the charges for changing the coolant, and oil additive since neither was called for. Yet, never once did the service manager (the same person who wrote up the invoice) apologize to me. I was quite calm and professional when I returned to the dealership. I was surprised that I didn't lose my temper while I was there. What a bunch of dumbasses!!! I just want to move on and forget about it. Well, I moved back to CA and I have all the tools to do my own service from this point on. No stealership if ever gonna touch my baby again, except for warranty repairs.
