Steering shimmy and shake

My 17 has 15k miles on it and I’ve had an alignment and had my tires balanced 3 times now and it still is having this issue. It has been driving fine for the past year and even the last three months after my lift. But just started having this issue a week ago.

how are your tires worn? if the alignment was out before and your tires are feathered or something you'll have issues even when they are balanced

Take it to Discount Tire and have them "Road Force Balance" your wheels/tires. Not all Discount Tires do this, so call around first. :) - ask for a price too!

Oh -- and they also get a more experienced person to do the Road Force Balance too.

I purchased my Nitto G2’s from them last year, thanks for the heads up on roadforce, I’ll have to specify and hopefully it’s covered under the free balance/rotations.

As for tire wear, they are wearing evenly as I’ve had them on since the truck had 800 miles on it and have been rotated every 5k miles.

you can't tell that tires are wearing evenly from mileage and proper rotating, you have to actually check them. you got an alignment so presumably your alignment was an issue, it could have caused uneven wear.

Well I had an alignment done after I got my G2's/Pro wheels on last June and then aligned again in April after I installed my lift. I am starting to wonder if this could be related to the Pro wheels? DT mentioned that the tires were wearing evenly so I took their word for it

Are you using wheel spacers by any chance?

I had the Spidertraxx wheel spacers and it seems they were the culprit.

I basically had to take my tires in for balancing every 5K miles otherwise the steering wheel would vibrate/wobble. I even had an alignment done and while both solutions would help initially, the vibration would come back. The guys at Discount Tires told me they see this quite often with wheel spacers so I had them removed and now it seems the problem is solved.

Nope, no spacers. That would make sense though.

It shouldn't matter with the TRD Pro wheels but I will still mention it as it fixed my shimmy. I put on aftermarket wheels and had a terrible shake at 60 mph. Put the wheels on and went on a road trip. Every day was exhausted from having to hang on to the wheel.

Either way, I found out that our lugs are fairly small/short compared to most. If you get ET (Extended Thread) Lug Nuts they will give you approximately 4 more turns than your standard lug nut. These fixed my issues completely.

Might be something to look into and try. I got mine from Discount Tire.
