I've installed dozens of wheels over the years and am about to install my old Nardi Classic on my 3rd gen. I'll make sure to take pictures and do a little write up. Getting the horns to work isn't hard after you do it the first time.

how close is this to a 3rd gen? i see he has two wires for the horn? i only have one? the clockspring looks the same.

i acutally ordered pre wired resistors that are supposed to just plug into the female airbag clip, so i dont need to butcher or mod anything. it has to come from euro land, so ive been waiting for those to come.

underfire is on to something regarding the honda shoe horn. unfortuneatly the honda forum link he provided doesnt work anymore. but the contact piece is part number: 35259-SH3-A02.

The Nardi Classic I have has a hub attached (looks like HKB). It came off a Toyota Mark II I owned back in the day in Japan. I looked at it this morning and it definitely won't work with the clock spring, which I don't want to remove just to install my Nardi.

Jumped on the HKB Japan site and looked up the part number for the 185 Hilux Surf here:

?????? ????????/????/????/HKB SPORTS/????????/??

With airbag and "monitor lamp" the part number is OT-202. Did some Yahoo JP searching and this is the hub the Surf guys are using and not having to pull the clock spring. It also comes with the resistor for the air bag light and connector for the horn.

I ordered one off Yahoo Auctions for $60. As soon as it gets here I'll get my Nardi installed and post up the results. Here is a link to HKB OT-202s on YA:

quick little update. my resistors came in from europe, but they are far too small to just plug into my airbag plug:

the very helpful video that is linked in post 20 shows the guy just push a single resistor into the clip. i cant find any 2 ohm resistors locally, so i bought 2 one ohm resistors before i broke down and bought the pre made ones from europe. this leaves me with a couple of options for the airbag light:

-attempt to push both resistors in and see how they fit (i will likely do this first). although i am not sold on this and i think they may come loose over time. if this works it will be awesome and means i dont need to cut the clip off

-create a harness for the super small resistors and cut the clip off on the harness and join with spade clips. this is what i will probably end up doing if the first option does not work.

-i could always cut off the clip and solder the resistors inline on the car. i have done this in the past and its a PITA and looks terrible (even though you cant see it). i am going to avoid this option and just spring for #2 if i need to do soldering.


finally, i still need to order the shoe horn. will do it sooner than later.
